Black with a brown head that builds big and thens dissipates very quickly. This beer is HUGE. Oily, smoky, bitter cocoa, almost a slight burnt sensation. BIG BIG BIG and excellent. It is hoppy and bitter, but the flavor has so much going on that you don’t think about the hops, but you definitely notice the bitterness. I am in awe of this beer, and in a can. I am frightened to think what would happen if I had regular access to this beer! fata2683 (894), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2009 can, pours a "thick as hell" black, medium dark head, plenty of lacing. Burnt molassis and roasted malt nose. Screams dark. Dark roasted malt, almost burnt, some bakers chocolate, and a nice hop presence. There is no sweet in this thing at all, it’s just big, black, and bitter, and it makes me smile. I’m glad that there are 3 more of these with my name on it. gracefullypunk (324), Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2009 Pours deep brown with a tan head that doesn’t linger. Smells of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and toffee. Tastes much the same, with some dark fruits and a slightly peppery hop taste to finish it off. . Maddog (245), Kettering, Ohio, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 11, 2009 An incredible beer. First had this on draft at the awesome brewery in Lyons, CO. Had it in a can yesterday. This beer is a big, black demon of an Imperial Stout. Opaque black, a big dark head makes it as imposing as any beer around. A light beer drinker would just quiver at the mere sight, smell and certainly taste of this behemouth. The flavors are complex with a ton of roasted malts, coffee and some smoke. It also has a big, dry hop finish, an oily mouthfeel and surprisingly, drinks fast and easy. A dangerous beer to say the least, but truly, one of the best Imperial Stouts out there. roder60 (1027), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Pours a thick jet black that sticks to the can and drips all over the place. Minimal head. Aroma is coffee, baking chocolate, and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is lots of roastiness, chocolate, black licorice, and a bit of a dark cherry undertone. Overall, enjoyable. josephselander (42), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Appearance – This pours an extremely dark black color with absolutely no chance of any light penetrating this beast. The head is a 1 finger burnt chocolate mocha color that is one of the richest colored heads I have seen on an Imperial Stout in a long while. This beer blots out the sun when held up to it, no wonder they locked this away in a dark, dark can. Awesome looking IS…
Smell – This smells like a lot of burnt caramel wrapped in dark bitter chocolate. The smells are really pronounced, almost too much. There are definitely some figs and other dark fruits in there as well.
Taste – LOTS of burnt caramel in the taste. The chocolate and dark fruits are there as well, but play a much lesser role in this flavor dance. A little bit of an alcohol sting is there too, almost like I just took a shot and the burn is there, and it is a little off-putting.
Mouthfeel – Feels thick, but doesn’t stick around and coat the mouth like most IS’s of this caliber do. The flavors stick around forever though, especially that alcohol burn.
Drinkability – This is definitely a great IS, and the best out of a can for sure. One of these seems like it would be quite enough. bigwilliestyel (8), Virginia, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 5, 2009 This is easily my favorite Imperial Stout. It’s nickname pretty much describes the way it pours, used 10W-50 motor oil. Oily black with a blackish tan head. Very hoppy for an Imp but you don’t really notice this. If you’re looking for a beer that will knock you down and keep you coming back for more this is it. An essential part of my beer collection. altehkiller (71), , California, USA
