| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Appearance – This pours an extremely dark black color with absolutely no chance of any light penetrating this beast. The head is a 1 finger burnt chocolate mocha color that is one of the richest colored heads I have seen on an Imperial Stout in a long while. This beer blots out the sun when held up to it, no wonder they locked this away in a dark, dark can. Awesome looking IS…
Smell – This smells like a lot of burnt caramel wrapped in dark bitter chocolate. The smells are really pronounced, almost too much. There are definitely some figs and other dark fruits in there as well.
Taste – LOTS of burnt caramel in the taste. The chocolate and dark fruits are there as well, but play a much lesser role in this flavor dance. A little bit of an alcohol sting is there too, almost like I just took a shot and the burn is there, and it is a little off-putting.
Mouthfeel – Feels thick, but doesn’t stick around and coat the mouth like most IS’s of this caliber do. The flavors stick around forever though, especially that alcohol burn.
Drinkability – This is definitely a great IS, and the best out of a can for sure. One of these seems like it would be quite enough. bigwilliestyel (8), Virginia, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 5, 2009 This is easily my favorite Imperial Stout. It’s nickname pretty much describes the way it pours, used 10W-50 motor oil. Oily black with a blackish tan head. Very hoppy for an Imp but you don’t really notice this. If you’re looking for a beer that will knock you down and keep you coming back for more this is it. An essential part of my beer collection. altehkiller (71), , California, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Delicious palate of chocolate and malt, with an incredibly rich and smooth texture with a lovely consistency and dazzling lacing left on the glass from its towering, lingering head. Yummy. Possibly the best stout ever. petematte46 (226), Dallas, Texas, USA

Thick chocolate, coffe, and roasted flavors. I must say a pretty dam good stout. Why again is it sold in a can? alagnak (359), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2009 Draft @ Falling Rock. Deep, dark and oily, smells of dark chocolate and a hint of anise and coffee. Tastes more of the chocolate and a really prominent black licorice. The licorice flavor is extremely close to the Dutch ’drop’ candies (which I hate, but somehow they go really well in this beer). Finishes with nice hoppy bitter and a pleasant alcohol heat. A hot early summer day pre-ballgame was probably the wrong atmosphere to rate this one, but very good
