Commercial Description:
Oskar Blues has released a special draft-only seasonal beer for the winter months. Ten FIDY Imperial stout is a titanic wonder of a stout, immensely viscous, and loaded with neck-deep flavors of chocolate, malt, coffee, cocoa and oats. It’s the beer equivalent of decadently rich milkshake made with Whoppers malted-milk balls and Heaven’s best chocolate ice cream. Ten FIDY is about 10% ABV and is made with enormous amounts of two-row malts, chocolate malts, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY’s huge-but-comforting flavors hide a whopping 98 IBUs that are deftly tucked underneath the beer’s mountains of malty goodness.

Also affectionately known as Ten W FIDY (i.e., 10W-50).

Editor's Note: The brewery has had the ABV tested at a lab, which came out to 9.4%.

Ten FIDY is a pitch black ale with a dense, caramel brown head that has excellent retention and really makes a mess of the glass. It has a resiny, roasty, chocolate-licorice aroma. It smells a touch sweet like molasses. It is heavy and smooth. The finish is clean and very dry. It tastes very roasted, like medium roast coffee, but it doesn’t get too astringent. Once again, there are notes of chocolate and licorice. It is well balanced and action packed. The aftertaste is like sweet resin. It’s a formidable beer.

Beautiful pour - black (even while pouring) with a burnt mocha head. Big roasty aroma, with toasted marshmallows, black coffee, and bitter chocolate. They’re absolutely right about the Whoppers. This is a big, thick brew! Flavors are more dry than sweet, with cacao, roasted coffee and burnt caramel covering a bit of molasses. Almost thick enough to chew. Very, very smooth and entirely enjoyable. MAN am I impressed with Oskar Blues!

On tap at The Big Hunt, Washington, DC. I might have rated it lower from a can, but on tap, this stuff is dynamite! Pours black, with a dense brown head. Thick lace that hardens into a crust. Appearance of burnt motor oil. Nose is huge--coffee, chocolate, smoke. Falvor is malt, chocolate, coffee, smoke, malted milk balls, earth, alcohol, unbelievably complex. Thick, viscous, sweet, fillinf, shifting hues of flavor, over-the-top strong. I couldn’t have survived more than one pint of this stuff!

12 oz can. Deep black body with a thick, lingering, chocolate colored head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma with coffee and alcohol notes as well. Cocoa chocolate flavor with a bit of a roasted coffee flavor and a tingling finish of alcohol and aluminum (from the can). A delicious, surprisingly smooth chocolate stout.

Can from South Bay Drugs: Such the most blackest stout I have witnessed in a long time. Creates a huge abruption of violent dark brown colored head while a sweet and strong dark chocolate fills the aroma occupies my area. There are instant flavors of tartness which then leads to a sweet blend of chocolate and roasted down black malts. The drink is easily consumed but lacks a more fuller and creamier palate but I’m overly surprised that this imperial stout came from a can.

Can, thanks to Alaskanwarren for this one. Opened for our "Reeser Got Married" tasting. Oily black, deep red-tan head. Bright salty licorice and sea air nose. Oily chocolate and cocoa powder flavor, intense and demanding. Ultra thick, full mouthfeel, giving that gorgeous melting chocolate sensation. Full, but without too much sticky. A pleasant Imp all around, but the mouthfeel--that’s truly fine. Thanks Brian!

Can at City Beer Store in SF. A good beer but definitely not a standout for the style. Black color, dark brown head. One of the darkest heads I’ve seen in a beer. Aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and some hop bitterness. Flavor was more of the same, maybe a hint of dark fruit, bitter cocoa, and slight metallic notes. Smooth on the palate. Alcohol noticeable but not too much for the ABV.

Incredibly drinkable Imperial stout with a fair amount of roasted notes that are more coffee than chocolatey. Super smooth mouthfeel, almost shockingly so. My favorite ’readily’ available imperial. Maybe just my favorite in general.
