Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

Absolutely great to finally try! Thrown in the freezer for a few minutes - perfect temperature. When cracked the can - no carbonation at all, but a bit of the black starts to come up. Poured in a glass - it looks like it’s supposed to - motor oil. Pitch black, 100% opaque. Nice sized two cenitmetre tall brown head - absolutely perfect. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, whiskey and oak. Full-bodied; Super strong oaky and roasty flavours with coffee and bourbon come out with some vanilla tucked in. Aftertaste is bitter, showing some nuts, cherries and a bit of milk. Overall, a great experience - I saved a lot in the can, just to drink a GOOD imperial stout from a CAN! I really enjoyed this, and if I were ever forced to bring a beer somewhere that bottles weren’t permitted - this would be my beer of choice! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from K&E Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 05-April-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 23-January-2009.

2007 can. Not much of a hiss when I opened this, I suppose I got to it with not much time to spare. Pours a rather dark though not impenetrable brown to black with a thin thin tan head. Creamy chocolate nose, sweet with residual sugars. Darker molasses overtones. Fruity hint of cherry and raisins. Roast of course. Fully creamy mouth, though not super thick and heavy. Very very malt. Big flavors. Much more assertive roast than the nose suggests. A bit creamy, a bit astringent to fruity. Some small alcohol. Chocolate. A hint of coffees. A heavy dose of diacetyl brings this down a not. Lingering roasty acidity. Not bad.

From the can. Pours black with a tall brown head. Lots of roast, char and a bit a smokiness. Dark bitter chocolate up front and a subtle note of licorice. Pretty bitter throughout. Smooth creamy palate. Really nice overall.

Originally had in Arkansas with MrBunn, but needed a fresh palate and clear head to re-rate. Good aromas of coffee and milk chocolate. Favor is the same with notes of malt and oats. Pour is an impenetrable black with an extremely dark tan head. Best Imperial Stout Ive ever had from a can. Bar none.

Draught at The Big Hunt. Super dark with a brown head that leaves some oily swirls in a couple minutes. Rick chocolate mousse, coffee and hoppy aroma. Some alcoholic fruit, dark chocolate, and a good hop presence. Thick and smooth. Nice imperial stout. The components seem a bit at odds at times, but it mostly comes together quite well.

12oz can sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a medium light brown head. Malty aroma of chocolate and coffee with a bit of hop. Semi-sweet chocolate and malt flavor with a coffee and hop finish. Awesome stuff.

this is definitely an imperial stout--motor oil pour, super thick head, etc., yeaup... thick’n’smooth and surprisingly altogether, but not without some intrusive notes of vinegar like balsamic, too bitter chocolate, heavy cream, and alcohol--not altogether, really.

Has to be one of my favorite beers. It’s seriously just phenomenal. Well disguised alcohol and bitterness. Pours as black as the darkest night, but has a taste much better than the night could ever have. Out of the stouts that I have tasted this one, in my book, is right behind bell’s expedition stout.
