Rich aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and some molasses. Flavor is very, very rich, reminding me of a dense chocolate-espresso lava cake. This was absolutely delicious. Palate is thick and full bodied with almost no carbonation. Notes of roasts, espresso, chocolate, hops, and darkness. Finishes on a deep bitter chocolate/charcoal note that was supremely tasty. Right up there with the top impy stouts I’ve tried. IPALover (57), Carlsbad, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 20, 2008 Aroma is thick malty with notes of chocolate and some alcohols. Appearance is black/opaque with a nice brown head with nice legs. Flavor is dominated by a heavy chocolate and cocoa flavor. I get licorice taste. Some hot tasting fuols are still preset. Overall this huge impy stout has a very nice overall taste that is very smooth and drinkable. Held back some points due to the remaining hot fusels. JoeinUccle (911), Brussels, Belgium
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2008 That pretty can pours a thick, viscous black into my snifter, producing only a thin, dark brown head despite a vigorous pour. Inviting nose of strong, roasted coffee with bits of chocolate, smoke and sweet whiskey. Flavor is a rounded bitterness with very light sweetness, incredible dry-roasty aromatic backdrop with espresso and that sweetness providing a faint impression of dark chocolate. Touches of smoke and whiskey again. Booze is detectable but fits perfectly well in the overall flavor. Thick mouthfeel and a bit dry. Roasty-bitter aftertaste. Big and interesting slow-sipper. Poured black color with a moderate to large creamy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted chocolate and coffee malt with a small alcohol aroma. Full body with a creamy texture. Heavy balanced toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark chocolate bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer. Thanks Brad! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Updated: Jan 24, 2009This one poured from the can a pitch black color that was completely opaque and as thick as motor oil. A big, foamy coffee head crowns the top that settles slowly and leaves sheets of lacing around the glass. This looks very enticing in the glass. The aroma is nice and roasty with dark chocolate and coffee dominating the nose. There is a hint of creaminess to go with some piney hops in the background also. The flavor is fantastic showing huge amount of dark and bitter sweet chocolate to go with the roasted coffee and bitter hops. Sweet chocolate malt and oatmeal push through to smooth out the bitterness. This one is so smooth it just begs for you to drink more. Full bodied with a thick, viscous mouthfeel, but still smooth on the palate. The finish is long and roasty with the chocolate sweetness left behind. This just an awesome imperial stout in every way and I can’t belive I waited this long to try it. I’ll be drinking more of this for sure. These guys definitely make the best beer in a can. pik5el (51), Pasadena, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Black and dense pour with no head when pouring, but reveals itself while settling to be thin and chocolate colored. Strong smell of sweet fruits, raisins, plums, some chocolate. First swig hits me with a nice density, which is washed down the throat by great balancing bitterness. Flavors are dark chocolate, dark rum, and coffee bitterness. Alcohol is nice, not hot at all, and balanced well with the sweetness of the malts and hop bitterness. Outstanding.
