This beer when sipped hard is almost like a shot of fire breathing dragon, covered in chocolate malts of course. Thick in palate, loads of grains, roasted, malty, thick and creamy with the requisite esters. I honestly got some dark cherries in there, a compliment to the more harsh grains and mild bitters. Really nice brew! Gypsy19 (652), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 18, 2009 It was strange to see liquid this good looking pouring from a can. Pours an opaque oily black with a small fluffy light brown head. Aroma is of dark fruit, overripe cherries and berries, nutty roasted malts also. Wow, the flavor delicious: Nice burst of dark chocolate malts right out the gate; I like that in a stout. Rich coffee and dark fruit flavors come shortly thereafter, and generously. A little caramel/brown sugar jumps on the ride just before the end. Just the right amount of alcohol in the flavor. Chest warmth develops after a few sips. 9 1/2 on the flavor: So close to perfect. Rich mouthfeel, tarry finish. A little light on the viscosity, but still nice. Wow, I really wasn’t expecting this to be quite this good. Love it. Overall, world class. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Sep 16, 2009 Can opened with too much vigor and it was as if motor oil spewed all over my hand and the counter.
Pours black as black can get, with deep rich dark brown head.
Nose reminds me of burnt eggo waffles, cherry-vanilla soda fountain, and SKOR candy bar.
Thick & full bodied on the palate. A roasted dark chocolate with espresso monster. Not a lot of balance. Hops are sharp and unpleasantly bitter. Not a pleasant complement to the roasty flavors.
This is an "in your face" beer but falls short in balance & drinkability. cstuartj (326), Washington, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2009 This canned brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of fine to large sized dark brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was dark chocolate dark malt and semi-sweet. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
