Goodgrief (992), Middletown, Delaware, USA Apr 14, 2008 Pour was black with no immediate head. The head emerged late, was one finger and was the darkest head I’ve ever seen, only slightly lighter than the beer. The aroma was slight and bitter. The flavor was a smack in the face, huge amounts of bitter cocoa and coffee with a really strong pine presence. Some sweetness to balance but just on the edge of asking is there enough? Really hard to drink, but in a wonderful way, the boldness makes this a slow sipper. I enjoyed it more and more as I emptied my glass. Thankfully, I have 3 cans to go!
joshwilfong (463), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 6, 2008 pitch black with beautiful tan head. nose of sweet roasted malt. flavor is tremendous with large contributions from chocolate and roasted malt. the most interesting aspect is the huge hop component that at times really is present in the bitterness which is remarkable for a 9.4% ABV. As good as a Russian Imperial gets. I’ve recently had Hitachino IS and Dieu de Ciel’s Peche Mortel and although it is difficult to compare it is maybe slightly better than Hitachino, but not quite as good as Peche Morter BrewCzar (16), St Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2008 Can pours pitch black with a darck mocha colored head. Aromas of sweeet roasted malts with hints of chocolate. Flavor is of malts, caramel, with a decent alcohol bite. Finishes with bitter chocolate. Big thick stout. Jblauvs (76), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 2, 2008 From a small can. Motor oil pour, One of the Darkest heads ive seen , very dark brown. subtle chocolatey, caramel. lots of roast. creamy mouthfeel, malty chocolate blast. alcohol is resonant in my mouth. Big Bold and ballsy, best tasting beer from a can ever. 17thfloor (561), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours thick oily black with a mocha creamy head. Crazy aroma, molasses, creamy chocolate, coffee, porter like roast quality, some vanilla. Dark and roasty!!! Burnt coffee flavor, milky and dark chocolate. Good pine hop bite. Long roast coffee and dark chocolate finish. Super creamy body with some smooth bubbly carbonation. Becomes a little one-note after a while and pretty sugary. This is great... but with some cherries... or whiskey barrel it would be amazing! Nejhleader (771), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2008 tap at mcgraths. Great beer, wierd this would be in a can. anyway nice dark colour with a brownish head, creamy body, has a nice flavour, a little bit roasted, a little chocolate and some good malt, yummy.
