JPDIPSO (4187), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 2, 2008 Near black, looks like the spent oil from a diesel engine, albeit thinner. Creamy cocoa colored, tight bubbled head. Thin sheet of lace coats the side of the glass. Big hops aroma. I’m catching mostly grapefruit, Hints of dark malt and chocolate, but otherwise a PNW imperial stout. Somewhat oily in feel, but the alcohol in the finish makes it seem thinner. Sweet flavors with dark chocolate, lightly roasted malts, and sweet espresso. The hops are not nearly as prevalent in the flavors with just a mild zest kick in the middle to finish. Some charcoal and oak in the middle as well. This does get smoother as it warms. Still a touch of alcohol in the late finish. Linger is quite bitter with roasted and black malt. Good stuff. Certainly the best imperial stout in a can that I have had.
Bigmmartin (137), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 25, 2008 Can thanks to dkachur! Very dark, black pour with a thick brown frothy head. Strong aroma of sweet roasted malt. Flavor is more sweet roasted malt and hops. Winds down to a bitter, very dry, finish. Has a nice thick, creamy, mouthfeel though. hophead_hans (555), Bay Area, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 Can, thanks Craig. Pours a solid black with a medium brown head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts, a bit of coffee. Very smooth on the palate with nice flavors of raosted malts, cacao, coffee and very little hops. Had a bit of a dry, ashen note to it as well. Quite good. nathan30533 (21), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 I would call this one a desert beer. Great tasting, you can most certainly taste the chocolate and cocoa. Overall smooth but a little bit of bubble in the mouth. Not an overwellming aroma but a good one. Looks great, taste great, overall great stout by the oskar blues guys. (Rating #1826) BlackDonald (723), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jul 16, 2008 Delivers delicious roasted chocolate in the nose with an oily black pour that explodes from the can with a strong and slowly building fluffy dark brown head. The hops come across more aggressively on the 2nd time around the nose. Roasty with some tobacco and leather notes. Creamy and not overly complex, but still really well done and enjoyable to drink. A light bit of dark fruits and roasted caramel coffee round out the flavor profile. Nicely done/
