LiebeBier (734), RIchmond, Virginia, USA Mar 13, 2008 Can - I agree that this packaging is undesirable for such a dark and staining beer. Unless one is golfing or generally sneaking beers where bottles are unwelcome, I don’t grasp the point of the can. Nutty roasted malt character. Purs black with a nice creamy tan head. The flavor itself I really enjoy. It has an oaty, nutty malty flavor with a rich chocolate backbone.
nathan30533 (17), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 I would call this one a desert beer. Great tasting, you can most certainly taste the chocolate and cocoa. Overall smooth but a little bit of bubble in the mouth. Not an overwellming aroma but a good one. Looks great, taste great, overall great stout by the oskar blues guys. (Rating #1826) BlackDonald (696), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jul 16, 2008 Delivers delicious roasted chocolate in the nose with an oily black pour that explodes from the can with a strong and slowly building fluffy dark brown head. The hops come across more aggressively on the 2nd time around the nose. Roasty with some tobacco and leather notes. Creamy and not overly complex, but still really well done and enjoyable to drink. A light bit of dark fruits and roasted caramel coffee round out the flavor profile. Nicely done/ ajm (260), USA Jul 15, 2008 I love drinking this beer. I’ve spent some good time in Colorado, so I’m partial to any brew from there, and this is one of the best. Like Yeti, this features that dry-as-rock chocolate ambiance that encircles the whole taste. Unripe currant follows. Unlike Yeti, this doesn’t need time in a barrel for its deep, hardcore character. This dog’ll hunt. MatSciGuy (171), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2008 [Can] Absolutely the darkest, most viscous pour I’ve ever seen. Beautiful brown head of fine bubbles that sticks around. Sweet candi sugar aroma, tons of roasted barley, some citric hops, and a little alcohol. Incredibly rich mouthfeel, but very well carbonated at the same time. Bitter, roasted barley on the finish with a little bit of warming alcohol.
