Commercial Description:
Oskar Blues has released a special draft-only seasonal beer for the winter months. Ten FIDY Imperial stout is a titanic wonder of a stout, immensely viscous, and loaded with neck-deep flavors of chocolate, malt, coffee, cocoa and oats. It’s the beer equivalent of decadently rich milkshake made with Whoppers malted-milk balls and Heaven’s best chocolate ice cream. Ten FIDY is about 10% ABV and is made with enormous amounts of two-row malts, chocolate malts, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY’s huge-but-comforting flavors hide a whopping 98 IBUs that are deftly tucked underneath the beer’s mountains of malty goodness.

Also affectionately known as Ten W FIDY (i.e., 10W-50).

Editor's Note: The brewery has had the ABV tested at a lab, which came out to 9.4%.

Can, of course. Jet black, brown at edges, deep tan going to brown head. Aroma of espresso. Flavor is a rich load of coffee goodness, a hint of chocolate, just loads of roasted notes. Spruce on the finish. Nice bitterness keeps lingering. Well done, just a touch hot. Awesome that these guys keep pumping out such high quality.

On tap at Pizza Port. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Strong taste of bitter dark chocolate and a slightly alcoholic finish. Decent.

Can at Orsted Olbarog. Black thin tan head. Pours like oil. Nice raisin aroma. It’s a pretty good imperial stout. One of the best aromas I’ve had. Good charcoal, some blackcurrant. Dryish, powdery on finish. A great aroma, not a big in yer face beer. But good oily beer. Good dry malts. Bit disappointed to start with, but it grew on me. It’s good, oily, good malts, but not one that really stands out and didn’t quite live up to the hype.

Canned. A dark dense, fine-laced chocolate head over a mysterious black opaque body. Nice smell; pure, refined nutty and roasted malts, dark fruits and chocolate. Taste is rounded sweet roasted malts, dark dried fruits, bitter coffee and salty licorce. Thick, chewy texture. Healthy body. Chocolaty finish with a sharpish ongoing bitterness. Thanks KnutAlbert, for this treat.

Pours pitch black into the glass, not much ruby is seen or am I able to see through this ale at the edges of the glass, gave a small tan bubble head that looks like a milk chocolate shake, swirling leaves a oily film on the sides of the glass, aromas of roasted and dark roasted malt, chocolate, some hints of burnt malt, some wood scents along with an alcohol (bourbon barrel aged?) aroma that reminds me of the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout(?), not quite as prominent as the BCS but it is there, faint bitter coffee fragrances in the background, prominent dark roasted malt flavors with bitter chocolate and some dark roasted coffee beans, appears to have roasted malt bitterness and hop bitterness that shows up at the finish along with some alcohol warmth that trails the drink, mouth feel is rather thick and has a nice creamy feel on the palate, this ale has a great mouth feel, this drink coats the throat and residual bitterness and dark roasted malt flavor hangs around. This is a big roasted malt flavored Impy with chocolate and coffee flavors, Oskar Blues says this is brewed with 98 IBUs, there is a lot of hop bitterness but it does not appear to be that much, maybe the heavy malt flavors hide the hops (?) If you like big dark roasted malt Imperial that coats and soothes the throat I recommend trying this Imperial, a very nice drink.

Pitch black body with a thick finger of dark tan head with nice retention. Nice spotty lacing. Very roasty, chocolate aroma. Bitter roasty malt notes, slight coffee and chocolate underneath and a powerfully bitter finish. Very nice beer (from a can!) Big time palate buster.
