I bought this having no idea what it was -- simply something new that I had not rated before. It’s in a can...how good could it be? Imagine my surprise when this stuff pours out indeed looking like motor oil from a diesel truck. No head whatsoever. viscous and opaque. I sip. I can’t even taste the alcohol, but the malts are deliciously deep, rich, and smooth. I also can’t identify the IBUs -- everything is so nicely balanced. 10 minutes later, I’m buzzing like I just sipped some moonshine. Only then do I realize the wonder of this creation. Call me thoroughly impressed. This is one for winter, to be slipped graciously slow and coddled like a warm and toasty blanket in an ice storm. Try it. You will more than like it.

Dec 22, 2009 Tin. Poured used engine oil black with medium tan head Mild lacing. Moderate aroma of coffee, roast and nuts. Full flavour, malt, roast nuts, coffee, chocolate, Lasting malty finish, bit of alcohol burn keeps it from going higher.

Dec 17, 2009 Solid black, thin brown head. Aroma- chocolate, peach, cherry, alcohol, biscuity roast malt. Taste- rich milk chocolate, hop and cocoa bitterness. Chewy body, soft carbonation, very easy to drink. Finish is moderately bitter.

Dec 17, 2009 12oz can poured into a tulip glass produced a dark brown frothy head and black body. Like motor oil with a head on it. Flavor and aroma of dark chocolate and roasted coffee.

Dec 14, 2009 (Can, Akkurat, Stockholm) Pitch black colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with espresso, ashes, tar and cocoa. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, black coffee, ashes and some tar. Generous cocoa bitterness in a long finish. Full body, slightly oily mouthfeel, fairly dry. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Well, it’s bold, full bodied, hoppy, strong and ... it’s canned! But in some way it’s very well balanced and quite easy to drink. Very tasty and quite brilliant!

Dec 14, 2009 Pours a jet black color out of the can with a bold, creamy brown head. Aroma is of coffee, oatmeal, chocolate and molasses. Taste features a prominent oatmeal taste, with bitterness coming from the coffee and some hops. With a little bit of sweetness coming from the chocolate and molasses. Rich, hearty, mouthfeel.

Dec 13, 2009 12 oz can. Pours black with a dense, foamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and burnt sugar. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt and a very light alcohol taste. Full body with mild carbonation and a thick, creamy mouth feel similar to chocolate milk. Best beer I’ve ever had out of a can, a very solid Imp Stout with great aroma and flavor, I really like the mouth feel in this one.
