Aroma of pepper, yeast, Belgian sugar, light funk, bready malt, nutmeg and other assorted cooking spices. Thick body is spicy up front with Belgian yeast, potpourri, caramel and sweet malt. Mostly spicy with a semi-dry finish, Bockyhorsey (2543), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Black body with dirty dish soap head. Sweet spice up front for flavor. In the middle noticed some malt in the mix. Finish was the sugar, sour yeast. Not bad thought this was going to be all spice to start with good brew. brewblackhole (1381), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Huge aggressive head,typical of Belgian styles, aroma is malting and schriveled dark fruits,taste is molassas like malt and old raisin,with a big anise finish,that becomes the most dominate part of the taste,some alcohol noticable,body just can’t get past medium. Never,had a Belgian like this before,but I personally love that anise finish noncaloric (617), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Dark brown with a reddish hue, a couple fingers of tan head fizzle down and leave a nice lacing. Modest aroma. What’s there is vaguely sour and noticeably spicy: clove and anise. Flavor profile is spice dominated: orange peel and nutmeg especially. Brown sugar plays a strong role in the malt profile. Despite the strength of the beer and the overall maltiness of the flavors, the palate comes across as thin bodied. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Feb 8, 2009 On tap at the Malt House: Pours a dark brownish black colour with a medium sized creamy tan head. Aroma is very nutty, alcohol and something resembling licorice on the nose. Taste is noticeable alcohol again initially, but quickly flows into baked beans, toast and coffee in the finish. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Pours charcoal hued; slightly greyed tannish head. Pointy aroma of dates, figs, anise, and black licorice; roasty, spicy, exotically sweet. Watery flavor with some coconut milk, candy sugar, black licorice and honey; quite weak in comparison to the curious and intriguing nose. Prickly, medium to full bodied palate where alcohol is kindly understated; finish is drawn out with some red pepper and dark spices on red meat. Weird, quizzical, cool stuff. Thanks for sharing, Bob! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2008 Bottle purchased at brewery (Point Brew Supply) after sampling it in the tasting room. Dark fruit with some alcohol strength in the nose. Roasted malt. Very dark, nearly opaque body with reddish hues. Very small tan head when poured that diminishes to a mere ring. An artisitic flower caused by carbonation rising from the middle of the glass forms on the top. Minimal lace. Strong alcohol aspect. Hint of hops in the finish. Belgian aspect is captured. Skyview nailed it when he compared this to black licorice. Quite literally, liquid black licorice. Since I’m not a fan of black licorice, my enjoyment of this brew was somewhat tempered. Nevertheless, a solid brew.
