| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2002 Dark ruddy brown hue. Aroma of orange peel, light earthiness. Smooth velvety mouthfeel, subtle smokiness, caramel, sticky and sweet in the finish. Decent but not extraordinary. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA

The head dissapated quickly, and I don’t recall much in the way of lacing. But the flavor was comendable. A good mix of spices. It went nicely with my fish and chips. Dark amber color with almost no head and very little lacing. Light malty aroma. Flavor was disappointingly thin, I was hoping for more malt and spice for a winter brew. Finish was thin and almost vinegary. Rockinout (946), Kent, Ohio, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | Nov 16, 2002 Thicker malty-ness, some caramel and a little sour on the middle of the tongue. O.K. for a Scottish, but not heavy enough to call it a winter ale. UnionMade (621), Connecticut, USA

Not quite as malty as I’m used to with a scotch ale, but definitely a welcome change. The hops are clearly defined under the not-too-heavy maltiness. I’m not big on malty, roasty beers, so the hops added exactly what I was looking for. Subtle notes of spice and flowers. No one else seemed to like this, but I thought it was great.
