Note of grapefruit and toast, like if someone made grapefruit jelly and put it on slightly burnt toast. Does anybody make grapefruit jelly? I mean, grapefruit is a breakfast food, and so is toast. I seems like a natural. I’m going to see if I can find any. Anyway, the beer has a "juicy" palate and a smooth, mildy hoppy finish with hints of smoke. Nose: bread dough and honey with a kiss of citrus hops. Taste: toffee, vanilla, butterscotch, golden raisons and toasted bread. Aftertaste is hoppy

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Medium amber, OK head that faded quickly but not completely. Slightly overcooked caramel malt aroma. Flavor was caramel with a slightly fruity hop note mixed in, a touch of citrus, a touch of earthiness. Honestly not half bad. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Appearance: clear, bronze color, with a very small, nearly non-existent head.
Aroma: fruit and malt take the lead, with rich, toffee notes next, add a bit of cola and nuts, ...time to drink...
So, taste...first come hops, though brisk and brief, yielding to this rich, full maltiness. Warm, toasty, tasty. Sweet, but never too-much-so, medium bodied, with a full-flavored, fruity finish. Overall, caramel is the dominant flavor component, though.
Nice beer, enjoyable. daniela (9), Berkeley, California, USA does not count | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2004 i can’t help but like this beer - i just found it in california for the first time after drinking it on some of the best days of my life on the east coast (phish tour). aroma of oranges. copper color with thin grey head. flavor of brown sugar, oranges, soap. sweet malt delivered in a medium body with relatively low carbonation and orange hops dancing about. somewhat unbalanced, lack of bitterness to complement the sweet beginnings. it is a lovely, drinkable winter beer, however.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 13, 2004 Deep amber-reddish pour with a lively tan head and nice lacing. Fairly standard "winter brew" aroma of some spice and some roasted malts with a touch of brown sugar. Flavor was just so-so. Nothing really grabbed my attention. There were some dark fruity notes and a bit of spice but nothing I could put my finger on. Not a bad beer but certainly not a memorable one. meathookjones (245), Sterling, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Appears a clear copper color with plenty of rising bubbles and a tall rocky beige head. Decent retention and lacing as well. The aroma is of sweet malt like fruit and caramel and a touch of floral and spice. Caramel and dark sweet fruits dominate most of this flavor with earthy hops playing the balancing role. Almost flavored like a light English barley wine. Medium mouthfeel with plenty of bubbly carbonation throughout. Smooth taste makes this one pretty drinkable. Pretty good offering from Otter Creek much better than the last offering of Middlebury Ale I had from them.
