Aroma held notes of caramel, citrus, anise, spice, however, these notes came through very faintly. Medium body, watery texture. Mild carbonation. The flavor was uninspired, average. Not on my Christmas list. jasonp (1510), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA

Taste has notes of caramel, butterscotch, toasty malts, citrus and a touch of alcohol. Moderately bitter, hoppy finish. Very full, round and creamy on the palate. Overall it’s a quality beer but very boring. willblake (2177), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Sweet aromas of toffee, some nuts. Pretty hopped in a laid back style if that makes any sense. Rather astringent and quite spicey but not bitter. I really disliked this at first but it grew on me as I paced myself through two bottles; it still doesn’t seem very wintery or alpine to me. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2004 Sweet caramel malts with a nice hoppy aroma with some mild alcohol apparent. Clear burnished copper colour with small tan head that recedes to thinly cover. Caramel malts up front with orange-grapefruit-citrus-pine hops. Mild bitterness leaves a very sweet round flavour. Unfortunate strong alcohol in the finish. Medium body and very low carbonation. Some alcohol warming. This would be far more enjoyable if the alcohol was not so apparent in the finish. This is a dark beer with not much carbonation. Very good with a warm fire after skiing. VA Homebrewer (525), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 16, 2004 Nut brown with a tall, tan head. Bold malty beer with a nice caramel, toffee, nutty nose. Modest spicy hop presence which is overpowered by the malt aromas. Very full malt profile with roasted nuts, toffee and caramel present. Sortof a nut brown ale, and an acceptable fall beer. iwantalambic (1388), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2004 12 oz bottle: full tan foam that has decent retention and a bit of sticky hop lace…strong pine sap aroma with some strawberries and hop cones among the sweet resin. Bitter hop flavour, with a decent malt profile – some darker caramel and hints of nuts. Good session qualities and all around flavour. Totally respectable and drinkable.
