Commercial Description:
Cerveza Cacao is a golden ale brewed with cocoa, vanilla, and cinnamon; inspired by the ancient Aztec drink: xocolatl (pronounced chocolatal). Montezuma supposedly drank 50 cups per day, and thousands of years later Mexicans are still drinking it. Theobroma cacao, the botanical name for the cacao plant, means Food of the Gods- what better ingredient to brew with? And what better beer to celebrate National Beer and Chocolate Week (Feb 13-17) ? Not to mention Valentine’s Day.

Drank while in Stowe last month. Nothing special at all. Tasted like a bad beer with a little hint of baking chocolate and vanilla bean hidden deep in the flavor. Surprised that the alcohol was as high as it is, though.

Clear lighter amber body with a small head. Aroma is cocoa, light spices, light caramel. Flavor had very light vanilla. Overall it still tasted like a macro lager with some strange stuff added. Never again.

(22oz bottle) Crystal clear light amber body with rapidly diminished light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel/bread, some vegetal, light vanilla, cocoa. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, bread, some spice, cocoa, light vegetal. Light-medium body, alcohol well hidden. Similar to a Vienna.

22oz bottle: Pours to a clear amber-tinted gold with a small eggshell head that dies down fairly quickly but does hold a rather large ring around the glass with wisps of head on top. The aroma smells very much like a bad mexican lager, maybe even showing hints of vegitable. However if you are careful and take your time with it, you’ll see that it’s actually notes of pale malt, sweet corn, and some spicy cocoa, vanilla, acorn, a hint of fruity pepper, cinnamon and a touch of grass. The taste is mild pale malts and a bit of bread, with extra flavors and spices adding highlights rather than taking over the flavor which I really like. Spicy chocolate, dry vanilla, peppered tree root, cinnamon and a hint of very mild anise. Light bodied, medium carbonated, finishes clean and crisp with a bit of bitterness and vanilla towards the end.

22 oz. bottle. A clear copper pour with a virtually nonexistent off-white head. Chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla beans and hints of cinnamon in the subtle aroma. A sweet malty base made even sweeter by the presence of chocolate and cocoa. Vanilla and cocoa are present in the finish. Low carbonation and lack of body give it a slightly watered-down impression. Not horrible, but it seems like a good idea and obviously could be much better.

Jesus this is bad. Golden color is perfect for a pale lager with a fluffy white head. Basic mexican beer lagerlike aroma. You have to really strain to smell any trace of cacao and I even wondered if they forgot to add it to the batch I was sampling. Sure enough, it’s slightly there in the flavor but it does nothing to help this one out. I gave this one a legitimate shot but there was no way I was going to drink a whole bomber of it. Drainpour like a motherfucker.

What a disappointment, Promising color and head. This beer really didn’t have a lot of anything going on. Anyone who finds cocao and spice in this beer is a dreamer. Towards the end of the beer when it warmed to room temperature I could pick up faint elements of vanilla and baking spices, but the cocao was masked by the flat alcoholic mid-palate that devestates the delicacy of this brew. The Double Decker was so damn good, what happened???

Pours golden color with a thin white head that dissipated very quickly. The very weak aroma is of citrus fruits, apple, caramel, slight chocolate and spices. Yuck! The flavor is piss poor. It’s bland with hardly any flavor - just a nasty bitter finish that leaves sour corn aftertaste. I can’t taste any hops or malts, just some spices. And this is the most watery palate I’ve ever come across in a beer. This beer is almost as bad as Natty Light.
