Crisp with upfront sweet caramel with a lasting bitter metallic finish. Not an alt. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA

Caramel malt with a little bit of hop tang that gets lost in an unfortunate metallic overtone. Drinkable, better than a macro. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Metalic edge like you were sucking on a piece of copper. I just had victory 10 year alt which was profoundly better version of this style. This one has the taste/feel of micro brew. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours a slightly red honey yellow-brown with an ok soapy white head. Head disappears pretty quick. Aroma of...caramel, malt, wheat (?)...huh. Flavor of malt primarily. Purple grapes (?), dark caramel. Aftertaste is sorta hoppy, but mostly malt and caramel. It must be noted that none of these rich sounding flavors is very rich, which is nice actually. Nothing mind blowing, but nice to have an amber that is willing to lower the hop content so you actually taste the rest of the beer. A bit spicy. Tates kinda like putting a penny in your mouth. It makes your mouth tingles a little. A very good beer to enjoy when you are on a hiking or camping trip. You can get this beer in most bars and resturants throughout Vermont on tap. tonyc603 (43), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Nice copper color with a small white head. This reminds me less of an Alt and more of a regular amber beer. There’s some caramel sweetness here in the malt not overwhelming though, bitterness balances but doesn’t dominate. Hop character seems to be somehwat classic, floral with some spiciness. A solid offering, a good session beer if you’re holed up in a Vermont cabin. vulcanmeister (102), La Grande, Oregon, USA

Pours a dark deep sparkly copper with a moderately small head. Soft caramel malt aroma, hints of grass hops but not much else there. The flavor likewise leans toward the malt, a whisper of orchard fruit, slight metallic bitterness on the finish. S
All in all, this one was without serious flaw other than the fact that it was pretty boring.
