Malt at the start, maybe a sourdough at the middle, seemed to be finishing with a light malt, but then some hop showed up. This ale has a confusing palate. It’s astringent, but malty. It’s malty, but there are hops. Maybe it’s as unique as Drake’s Expedition Ale (though it’s not similar otherwise). All in all it’s a good drink. Should go great with pizza. Hope they don’t lose the recipe. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

The aroma is very light, some bready malts, light caramel. The flavor is bready, slight roasted notes, some toffee and nuts, light bitterness. Medium/light body. tommy8768 (120), Litlle Compton, Rhode Island, USA

Has a slightly toasted malt taste with some hoppiness. Has a tealike aroma and taste to it. Not too bad. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jun 4, 2006 A decent beer on tap, but definitely not an altbier...don’t know where that came from. Roasted malts balanced well with the aroma of fruits. Deep dark flavor with a crisp finish. Overall, fairly decent. I do think I will get this one again. eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 31, 2006 Not a bad beer, but it didn’t taste like a German alt to me. Pretty copper color set the expectations higher than the taste really proved. I’d drink it again because it was so smooth, but it really didn’t stand out from other decent beers I’ve had. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 30, 2006 Copper body with laced white head. Roasted malt, caramel, nutty aroma with similar flavor that is followed with a hop finish. Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 19, 2006 pours out of the bottle a clear, tangerine copper with little to no head which is white, fizz. 2-3 tiny splotches of lace remain above the rim. first taste brings pleasant floral hops. more sips find floral, citrus and bitter hops. the yeast fills the flavor like its permeating from the center and is solid and tangy and tasty. sweet, dense, mocha malts emerge from the background. the aftertaste is quiet, sweet and dry. at this point you really start to pick up sweet, sour, juicy, apples and oranges and pineapple that soak the throat. carbonation overall is a little flat. general impression: a nice, sweet treat. Must say I’m not a fan of the altbier style (or, at least, of the examples thereof I’ve tried). This brew is characterized by an unusual and somewhat off-putting sour citrus taste. Not something I’d anticipate seeking out again.
