This brewer has overall failed to impress me and this beer was no exception. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bronze color with a large tan head. The aroma is tangy and musty with a vaguely skunky element. The flavor is sour and tangy but otherwise fairly nondescript.

Not sure about the naming here, since it’s exactly the same colour and appearance as the pale ale. Sweet, lightly nutty aroma. Flavour is sweet and lightly malty with a touch of apple fruitiness. Lingering sweet bready malts, light toast. Earthy hop flavour with moderate bitterness. Pretty tasty brew.

Bottle. Medium amber with offwhite head that fades quickly. Nose of medium caramel malt and moderately spicy/dry hops. Flavor is malt-forward with a balanced bitterness throughout. Tasty, but nothing special.

Picked up a mixed 12 pack of this beer in Vermont over spring break. This was the first one I tried, and I was impressed. I’m unfamiliar with the altbier style. It doesn’t seem like one that is very common (particularly among microbreweries in the U.S.) Anyway, it’s caused me to want to try more altbiers in the future.

[bottle 12/27/05] Pours a copper color, indeed. Medium carbonation. Decent malt, nice bitter finish. Overall, not too bad.
