(12 oz bottle: Chevy Chase Liquors in Washington, DC) Bottled over a year ago, so this has seen some aging. This is one of the first beers I ever rated back when I started doing this in January of 1994, and I loved it. But with so little reference back then, who knows? Well, the beer smells bready, toasty and somewhat sweet. Similarly, the sweet breadiness and toasty malts takes center stage in the flavor, with a slight bitterness toward the finish for decent balance. Medium bodied with a soft textured mouthfeel and standard carbonation levels. Slightly hazy and amber in color. Off-white head swells to nearly an inch before settling to a broken film surrounded by a heavy, wide ring. Fancy, sponge-painted lace is left on the glass. So while I don’t like this beer as much as I did way back when, I still think it’s a tasty and enjoyable brew.

Bottle. Dark amber with a moderate rocky white head that diminished quickly. Medium balanced aroma. Medium body. Good flavor with a moderate bitter finish.

Bottle. Chewy malts, with a bit of tang, or zip if you will from the hops. It made me pucker a little, but in a good way. I think it would be well paired with bratwurst, but thats the case for most beer.

This bottled brew bottled on 01/31/05 batch 1676 poured a medium sized head of white colored foamy fine to medium sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a transparent carbonated amber colored body. The aroma was malty mildly spicy with nutmeg and a metallic not. The mouth feel was tingly initially and finished with a strong tingly sensation and a metallic aftertaste. The flavor was malty doughy mildly hoppy mildly spicy and also metallic.

Clear copper appearance, malty aroma. Sweet malty flavor, mildly caramel, nutty, mild hoppey finish. Decent amber ale but not an alt.
