Poured a orangish red hue with minimal head on it. Smell is nice enough but first taste is not what was expected. Not bad but different, with a metallic taste. Decent enough to drink but not an everyday beer.

Glassy and brown with a rough, diminishing head. Aromas are interesting, with a little toast, some sweet, acidic malt. Palate was not as fulfilling, with the mouthfeel falling off towards a sour ending. Effervescent and hoppy on the tongue. More alcohol present in the flavors than some of the biggest belgians.

Bottle, from Julio’s. Bottled on 8/04/04. Good nose. Carmel, sourdough, little apple, nutty, wheatish. Clean orangecopper color. Small head that faded quickly. Bitter flavors. I get a whisky thing, carmel, lite grapefruit/burnt in there. Medium bodied, creamy/oily mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Good brew, though it was a 14 hour day and it was the first beer of the night. Worth a try.

Had this on tap at the Black River Brewing Co in Vermont. Has a clear light copper color with little head and some carbonation. Smell is of sweet malts. Taste is also of sweet malts and finishes with a light hop bitterness. Overall an ok beer, but nothing special.

12 oz, bottled on 08 March 2004: clear, light copper; persistent & patchy off-white foam…sweet malty aroma with a hint of bittersweet butterscotch, and pine. Grainy palate, with a slight chewiness. Light bitter flavour with a hint of vanilla and nice even malt. Finish is a quick hit of hops and a lingering nuttiness. Actually pretty drinkable.

Pours light copper with a medium, foamy white head. Aroma of malt, hops, chardonnay, toffee. Tastes malty, with some toffee/caramel/brown sugar at mid-palate, and a malty, sweet, slightly hoppy finish. Medium palate, with a smooth, crisp finish. I enjoyed this one.

Amber/orange color with a small white head. Mild hop/citrus aroma. Initial flavor of hops with the malt flavor following behind.

A nice vermont beer. Very drinkable, not sure why it’s an "altbier" -- tastes like an amber lager, perhaps with a bit more of a kick. Would drink again.
