The aroma is cardboard, green beans and a little bit of black pepper. The taste is smooth and reminds me of a brown ale. Fairly bland, but pleasant. Has some roasted malty goodness. Stong flavored, yet smooth. Slightly sweet with well balanced hops. The flavor lasted but was neither sweet nor bitter. Went down well, the bottle was empty too soon, had to go back for seconds. shadey (1498), Rochester, New York, USA

The pour is a copper color with a nice white creamy head. Lacing is there, but quickly dissipates. The aroma is hops and spice. The flavor is a tastey mix of malt and hops. Quite good. Really good with the cajun chicken I had to go with it. hopdog (5562), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Plain and bland tasting. Their web site says this is their year ’round flagship brew - based on this one, I’m not looking forward to tasting any others by them. Could I have gotten a bad bottle or could it have been the Dogfish 90 minute IPA & Victory Storm King Imperial Stout I had before tasting this one - may have had an influence on taste, but could barely finish it. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 23, 2004 Copper hue with a small head and a spicy hop aroma. Medium bodied, malty but not particularly sweet malty, dryish, nutty and toasty with a healthy bitterness throughout. Slightly sweeter and fruitier than the Frankenheim Alt I sampled along side of it but otherwise quite similar. cigarsnbeer (146), Valley City, North Dakota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 18, 2004 Very watery with a hint of malt. Its almost like taking a half a glass of a good beer and mixing a half a glass of water with it. Not my favorite Altbier, look elsewhere! ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA

Smelt quite nutty, but there was an overwhelming smell of pee. Stale nutty caramel flavours, really dissapointing.
