Commercial Description:
Cuckoo Bock, Otter Creek's seventh stop on the "OTTER CREEK WORLD TOUR" is inspired by the German Mai Bocks. This time the Otter is back in Germany, with a traditional German beer, Mai Bock. Brewmaster Steve Parkes procured Vienna malt, pilsener malt, two types of Munich malts, and hops and yeast all the way from Germany, in an effort to make this beer as authentic as possible. The Otter Creek version will be light and slightly sweet, with a fresh aroma. Don't let this fool you, however. Mai Bocks are strong beers and this one won't be any different. As it says on the label- "Now you can have your own German Mai Fest- prosit!"

Bottle from Capone’s. Hazy dark straw pour with minimal off-white head and not much retention. Aroma is pale malt, corn, spicy yeast, some fruit. Tastes pale malty, with some fruity apricotty notes, plus mild hops. I like a fruitier maibock, but this one isn’t bad.

Bottle (650ml) shared at ’Biegaman’s Summer Gathering’ -- courtesy of biegaman. Pours a clear golden-orange with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma’s pretty dull, it smells like a mediocre European lager: Sweet, sugary, grainy and a little vegetal. The flavour, I think, is better then the aroma and consists of slightly toasted caramel malt, light grassy hops and a decent dry bitter finish. Medium bodied. It started off with the bland aroma but I quite enjoyed the flavour of this one, one of the better attempts at this style I’ve tasted,

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Deep golden color with a very creamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet and light with some hints of apples, malts, bread, and caramel. Taste is nice and malty with a good solid sweetness underneath and a slightly dry and bitter finish.

Thanks to eagle for this one. Poured a golden color with good head and lacing. Aroma was sweet and grassy. Flavor was very nicely done, balance of sweetness and hops and grass. Solid beer for sure.

22 ounce bottle(s) from City Market in Burlington and the convenience store next door in Richmond, several samplings April-May 2007. This one’s from a Trout Brook mug. Fizzy off-white head decays rapidly atop the likewise bubbly light amber-copper body....the nose is quite potent, caramel-earthy and lightly nutty, fresh and full of plenty of noble hops, really quite remarkably forward and delightful for an OC beer....on the tongue, a small letdown but still the lovely balance between dry, burnt/toasted malts and sweet caramel, the hints of chalkiness and pitted fruits, carries the day....lightly bitter, grassy finish, low to moderate carbonation, only the barest hint of alcohol. Certainly one of OC’s best beers to date, a worthy replacement for the lamented Mud Bock should they choose to brew it again....

Malty and yeasty aroma, hints of dried fruits. Golden orange color with a medium white head. Taste of light fruity malts. Moderate bitterness in the finish.

On draught. Poured a golden hue somewhat light for a bock in general. The flavor was hoppy in the form of a German hop character. The alcohol content is well hidden. I liked the otter in liederhosen on the tap.

Perhaps one of the best Otter Creek beers I’ve had to-date, poured a golden color, nice generous straw colored head, decent lacing. The aroma was godlen honey, light grass. The flavor was honey, light grass, some spicey hops, all pretty nicely balanced, not a case of the hops taking over the maltiness. Bready and dough aspects also came to play with higher temperatures, a pretty enjoyable beer, well carbonated, slightly zingy in the finish, good stuff.
