Commercial Description:
Cuckoo Bock, Otter Creek's seventh stop on the "OTTER CREEK WORLD TOUR" is inspired by the German Mai Bocks. This time the Otter is back in Germany, with a traditional German beer, Mai Bock. Brewmaster Steve Parkes procured Vienna malt, pilsener malt, two types of Munich malts, and hops and yeast all the way from Germany, in an effort to make this beer as authentic as possible. The Otter Creek version will be light and slightly sweet, with a fresh aroma. Don't let this fool you, however. Mai Bocks are strong beers and this one won't be any different. As it says on the label- "Now you can have your own German Mai Fest- prosit!"

Golden-amber. Malty-caramel nose with notes reminiscent of glossette raisins. Caramel taste, some bready notes. Hop dryness towards the finish. Thin body. Lacks focus.

Pours a transparent bright orange bronze with a thin, wispy white head. Has a toasty, earthy grainy German malty aroma with a touch of light sweetness. Body starts semi-sweet and slightly tart with a thinner, foamy palate. Finishes drier and earthy with some grassy notes hiding the alcohol fairly well. A little too dry and unbalanced for the style.

Pours copper with a white frothy head and good lacing. Smells of oranges, some sugar, pepper, sweet malt. Tastes of pepper, some tea, some metallic hints. Mouthfeel is dry with some tea and bitter hints on the finish. I’ve been impressed by the world tour series so far.

22 oz bomber. Deep golden pour. Rich sweet pale malt that is lightly cerealish but also nicely clean. A bit of earthy/noble hop aroma but mostly keeping itself in the back. Chewy yeasty/bready malt character. I really enjoy the malts in this brew. Flavour shows fresh bready yeasty character and soft doughy malts. Just enough hoppiness to keep the sweetness in check. A touch of floral hop flavour. Lingering yeastiness. An excellent interpretation of this style.

Clear medium-gold appearance. Sweaty grain nose, cereal and biscuit and sour butter scents, some mold as well. Not good. Tastes just as bad, it’s a mess of soggy grain, cardboard and sour oats. Didn’t dig this one like I did the sahti and weizen bock.

Bottle from Capone’s. Hazy dark straw pour with minimal off-white head and not much retention. Aroma is pale malt, corn, spicy yeast, some fruit. Tastes pale malty, with some fruity apricotty notes, plus mild hops. I like a fruitier maibock, but this one isn’t bad.
