Otter Creek Brewing has brewed up a little something new just for spring. Releasing late January, the new ESB will be out just in time for the onset of cabin fever. Otter Creek's Extra Special Bitter has heady hop aromas and a rich maltiness to provide balance and full delicious flavor. A perfectly refreshing amber ale. Look for green 6 pks and 12 pks. On tap at HDG. Deep copper in color with a little head. Bready, malty hoppy aroma. Fruity and malty flavor. Caramel spicey clove notes. Citrusy hops. Finish is fruity. Medium bodied. Drinkable.

Bottle from State Line. Pours hazy copper-white head. Aroma of bready malt, caramel, almonds, sour fruit. Tastes caramel malty, with some sour fruit and tannic brown sugar. Stays more sweet than bitter.

Bottle (12oz). Bright clear deep copper, small foamy head. Sweet light roast malt aroma, floral/perfumy hops, dry, a hint of yeast and dried rose petals. Taste is ... I don’t know, I almost want to say nasty; the malt seems cardboardy, the hops are harshly bitter and herbal, the (long-lingering) aftertaste is medicinal - not nice. Average body, light carbonation, bitter - aroma’s too sweet, taste is bitter in the wrong way.

There is a light spicey aroma and a pour that is golden with a white head. The flavor is lighly spicey with a considerable fruity background.

Draft at RFD before the RBSG RFD tasting. Hazed amber. Nose is hoppy and spicy. Taste is sweet with lots of spicy hops, light toffee, big fruit notes (orange/tangerine, melon and pear). Body is medium with light to medium carbonation. Finishes with more bitter and hoppy notes and lots of fruit (big melon, pear and tangerine).

12oz bottle pours amber with a short offwhite creamy head that stays briefly and laces some. Aromas of caramel malts and light grassy hops. Flavor is pretty malty as well. Caramel, light grains and a somewhat bitter hop finish. Medium bodied and pretty well balanced. Quite drinkable and not bad.

Bottled on 3/08/06, Lot #1867. Clear and copper with a small head. Faint aroma of caramel malt and a little hoppiness. Not too much. Flavor is simple and refreshing. Nice bready and caramel malt with a small toastiness in the background. There’s a slight bittering from the hops, but it’s subtle. Finishes toasty and slightly sweet ... kind of like it begins. Basically, it’s a nice and simple ESB.
