| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 21, 2009 Bomber. Clear burnt orange with a large and lasting spongy head above. Nose of peppery orange peel, tea leaf, resin and light caramel-banana. Flavor is peppery leaf, with undertones of orange caramel, pineapple, peach, light cocoa and banana. Finish is long with peppery dried cedar, minty grass and toasted nutshell. The peppery notes remind me of rye. Medium body is extremely smoothly carbonated, slightly watery, hoppy-dry and tingly. Dangerously drinkable with barely noticeable warming from the 11%. Beautiful Jack Frost lacing all over the glass. Superb DIPA with a very unique hop blend. Pours a lush, thick dark cheddar orange with a full, frothy head of slightly-off-white that leaves a beautiful design on the side of the glass. Aroma is syrupy sweet grapefruit with strawberry chunks baked in malty bread. A dash of orange juice pokes its head out but only slightly. Flavor is a rush of mouth-puckering grapefruit with a tangy, abrasive pine that simply doesn’t let go. The slightly malty backbone gives some respite from the sour onslaught but not much. Thin, slightly tingly mouthfeel that is not indicitive of the intenseness of the flavor. Nice IPA with unrelenting sourness.
