Commercial Description:
Mud Bock Spring Ale makes its appearance with the spring thaw. The main feature of this full bodied beer is a broad and deep malt flavor. While sweeter than our other beers, a wine-like character provides balance in the flavor profile. Has fruity, herbal and floral notes in the aroma. Available February to May

One thing struck me immediately upon opening this beer: its aroma is very similar to Goose Island Kilgubbin Red Ale. Flavor is between Kilgubbin and a doppelbock. Malty sweet, with a bready, bitter aftertaste. Kind of thin-bodied, however. I prefer the Doppelbocks.

Lasting tight beige head on a deep copper, very clear beer. Very heafty chocolate malt and caramel malt aroma w/ some roasted barley in the initial nose, that starts to dominate as it warms; I do not notice any fruity, or floral notes as the commercial description suggests, however, it is a little earthy, not herbal. Flavor is roasty and slightly chocolatey, slight toffee, again, no fruitiness, but has a very slight sourness from dark grains, very, very slight hop flavor in the background barely noticeable; very well balanced w/ a slightly semi dry finish and roasty aftertaste. Carbonation is on the lower end, and body is medium. Not a true bock by any stretch of the imagination and the batch I have has been in the bottle a full 2 months so it may have lost some of the floral notes in the commercial description, but a good drinkable beer nonetheless.

Nutty earthy nose. Sticky light tan head. Ruby brown hue. Malts are pleasantly assertive, though a little lacking for a bock...Is this a bock? A bock cant really be an ale...Whatever...Very drinkable, sweet, caramel, kinda thin, light bodied, metallic and lightly hopped finish. Definatley drinkable, and well rounded. Prolly Otters best brew!

This beer was much better than I expected. Nice and roasty, with some nuttyness blended with hops

Small tan head atop a clear garnet-brown body. Aroma and taste are both roasty coffee and hazelnut, slightly caramel and chocolate. Taste finishes with a light bitterness. Fairly decent body.

Heavy molasses malt aroma with a hint of citrus. Huge off-white head with a deep chestnut brown body. Initial flavor was lightly acidic and bitter. Heavy sweetness appeared on the finish. Earthy quality that differs from other bocks. Maybe thats the mud ;)

Very malty, but not rich or creamy. Not much hops, but hints of caramel and raisins. Somewhat uninteresting, and not a very striking beer.

A decent bock, though a tad thin-bodied. Nice brown color with a good lacing. There is a slightly spicy aroma. The flavor is malty and slightly sweet, with hints of cloves and caramel. The finish is watery and boring, though. A good beer for making the transition from cold to warm weather.
