The taste was very malty, but not quite as clean as a lager, as it is an ale. A nice top fermenting version of a German classic style. goz (359), Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA

Pours a clear dark brown, with a quickly diminishing light tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, light dough and chocolate. Flavor follows the aroma, with sweet and roasty flavors dancing on the tongue. Medium body, light carbonation. bender (293), Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA

Smokey and malty aromas. Some sweetness in the aroma too.
Smokey, roastiness comes through with a sweet hop bite. Sweetness lingers. Not really balanced.
Smooth and somewhat refreshing but could be smoother...

Pleasant malty aroma with a slight burnt caramel edge with hints of coffee and asparagus. Medium bodied, smooth, easy drinking with flavors of chocolate and dark bready malt, late coffee bitterness and a healthy dose of yeast. Balanced and tasty. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 7, 2003 Dark brown...almost black in colour. No detectable aroma....but somewhat grapey. Definate sourness with a grape overload taste. A good spring beer with a nice fresh taste. UnionMade (621), Connecticut, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 11, 2002 The beer has a great color, but poured a bit flat. Taste had a sour-ness to it. Not a ’true’ bock, reminded me of a Shiner Bock style beer.
