Commercial Description:
Next Stop: Scotland.... Otter Kilter, A Scottish-Style Wee Heavy. Otter Kilter, Otter Creek's sixth stop on the "OTTER CREEK WORLD TOUR", is a style modeled after the Scotch Wee Heavy ales. Wee Heavy is a traditional Scotch ale. The rich, malty character can be attributed to the native strain of barley known as Golden Promise. This barley is prized by both ale brewers and Scotch whiskey distillers. And it's not hard to see why once you've tried it. Wee Heavy ales feature a rich caramel flavor that is achieved by boiling the wort in the brew kettle for an extra long time. Hops only grow in the southern part of Britain in England, home of the "Sassenachs" the ancient enemy of the Scots. Needless to say hops are used sparingly in Scotch ales. As they say in Scotland, Slainte!

22 ounce bottle from mcbackus. Thanks! Pours a bronze-brown color with a minimal head. Very malty caramel aroma with some earthy and nutty notes. Big caramel and toffee notes in the taste with an earthy character. Medium bodied.

2008 Flour city Brewfest. Brown amber with a thin tan head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Well-rounded flavor with caramel malt, alcohol, nut and fruit. Easy to drink; well crafted.

22oz. Good clear chestnut color with a white head. Nice lacing. Caramel and toffee up front, savory component in the back. Toasty and sweet smelling, nutty almost pancakey notes. Flavor is well balanced, and rather nice except for the finish, which is oily and metallic. Could probably benefit from having a little more ABV, but who knows. It’s fine, I suppose.

Pours an almond brown colour with a medium tan head, leaving minimal lacing. The nose is toasty and earthy with burnt caramel, mild cocoa, smoke, and nutty malts. The Flavour is sweet, earthy and full with notes of brown sugar, almonds, caramel, noble hops, squash and toasted bread. The body is chewy and full with mild carbonation. It is balanced, drinkable and flavourful. Nice.

Poured out into a pint glass with a thick tan head and a clear nut brown color. The nose is a nice roasted malt with hints of chocolate and mocha mixed with almond anf walnut. Initially it is nice and creamy with roasted nuts and toasted caramalized malt. There is a distinct bitterness but it is not that strong, the creamy scotch like flavor overpowers the hops. The finish is rich in malted barley and mocha which makes it very pleasing. Overall it is nice and refreshing.

Deep brown beer, thin white head. Aroma is lovely. Rich toffeeish caramelly aroma. Quite sweet and rich smelling with lots of kettle character, some toasted malts and even a kiss of smokiness. Flavour is sweet, chewy and well-balanced. Dark caramel, toast and sweet maltiness with a bit of chocolate on the back. Rich creamy palate. Like this a lot more that I probably should. A bit of earthiness on the finish. Definitely a quality brew.

May 2007 - This isn’t going to be confused with the best scottish ales. Decent smokey flavor but lacking a little earthiness to it. Easy drinking beer, but not great.

Yup liked it. Very lovely beer. Has a nice toffee candy touch to it but is not very sweet. A bit of complexity from this guy. Very red ale, super light flavors of cream, some citrus hoppies, and sweet maltyness with a medium body. Very good.
