Commercial Description:
Next Stop: Scotland.... Otter Kilter, A Scottish-Style Wee Heavy. Otter Kilter, Otter Creek's sixth stop on the "OTTER CREEK WORLD TOUR", is a style modeled after the Scotch Wee Heavy ales. Wee Heavy is a traditional Scotch ale. The rich, malty character can be attributed to the native strain of barley known as Golden Promise. This barley is prized by both ale brewers and Scotch whiskey distillers. And it's not hard to see why once you've tried it. Wee Heavy ales feature a rich caramel flavor that is achieved by boiling the wort in the brew kettle for an extra long time. Hops only grow in the southern part of Britain in England, home of the "Sassenachs" the ancient enemy of the Scots. Needless to say hops are used sparingly in Scotch ales. As they say in Scotland, Slainte!

Attractive, dark brown appearance with a medium size head and good lacing. Caramel malt aroma with a hint of toffee, but lacking the smoky qualities that help define the style. Fairly sweet, malty taste with flavors of dark bread and ripe fruit. Understated hop profile. Medium-bodied, modestly carbonated mouthfeel that is very easy on the palate. Long lasting finish.

Poured a clear copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma was malty and sweet with some smoke and a hint of peat. Semi-sweet flavor was malty with a light hop on the finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle thanks to ElJefe: Pours a clear bright copper amber with a thin, frothy tan head. Aroma of really earthy, muddy, peaty character without much smoke and some toasted pale malt. Body starts with a fuller caramel malty sweetness with some light fruity complexity and more earthy flavor. NIcely balanced and fairly authentic.

Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Amber color with no head. Slight sweet and slight burnt carmal taste. Finish starts chewy and then fades to a clean mouth feel.

On tap at the speakeasy. Pours a dark amber with a thin to non-existant white head. Aromas of caramel, burnt toast, brown sugar, and malts. Flavor is malty and nutty with a pretty smooth finish. Nothing exciting, but I got to keep the glass which made it worth the 4 and a quarter.

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a deep garnet color, with a minimal eggshell colored head. Head faded quickly, but left a decent lacing in the glass. Aromas are of caramels, burnt sugar, sweet 2-row malts, minimal hop aromas. Flavors are of caramel, some toffee, graham crackers, earthy hops at the end. Decent mouthfeel, medium body. Finished slightly sweet, but well balanced. Decent beer overall.
