Commercial Description:
Otter Creek World Tour -- Next Stop: Japan. Japan is famous for sake, wich is brewed with rice - the main staple in Japan. These days, however, the Japanese are drinking more beer than sake - although the brewers still use plenty of rice in their brews. Japanese tradition calls for special sakes and beers to be brewed in celebration of spring. Here's our version: a pale amber full-bodied ale brewed with pilsner malt, Hallertauer hops, rice (of course), authentic Koji and sake yeast. Kanpei!

22oz bottle. Poured a medium and lightly hazy golden color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of grains, rice, and a little grass. Tastes of rice, gains, and some light malty sweetness. There was ’something’ different about this that I had a harder time putting my finger on.

Pours a transparent golden orange with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel and fruity esters with a touch of graininess and oak. Body starts semi-sweet and smooth with a mild light fruity tart balance before a drier, drinkable finish. The sake yeast makes this a pretty interesting and unique brew even if its not overwhelming.

Pours goldand hazy with a generous white head. Smells appley with some dry malty undertones. Tastes of dry malt with some sweet fruity elements on the finish. Unusual.

Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Pale amber beer with a thick fluffy white head. Aroma is quite rich and bready. Light tapioca and coconut over a very grainy bready flavour. Soflty fruity with a kiss of melon and pear as well. I quite like this.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours gold with some chill haziness and minimal head. Nose is malt, some ricey sake notes, mild hops and yeasty spices. Tastes lagery, with some ricey sake notes that become apparent as it warms. I expected this to be more sake-like, but it’s more like a beer/sake hybrid, with the sake yeast giving some unique flavor and palate sensations.

A golden ale with a thick creamy lacing white head. Aroma is fruity, grainy, and bready, with the sake notes coming out well. In mouth, a sweet malt with caramel notes, oily mouthfeel, alcohol and fermented rice. Medium bodied.
