Commercial Description:
This time the Otter is going to Germany, with "Otterbahn," a weizenbock, set for May release. "Otterbahn" is a unique combination of a hefeweizen (unfiltered wheat beer), and a bock (robust malty ale). The wheat adds a citrus like flavor and light body, the unique yeast strain produces clove like character and banana esters. The addition of toasted malts adds even more complexity to this already full-flavored style. As they say in Germany- prosit!

This to me drank like a lite porter. It had enough of the aromas that showed an almost carmel like nose into the flavors but it finished wiht a lighter sense on the palate. You could actually sense the wheat beer flavors neer the finish!

22oz. bomber: This has been hiding in the back of the fridge for awhile, but not too long. This one pours a clear, but dark brown color. Mine had a decent tan head on it, but it dropped away quickly. The first whiff is definitely caramel, with some roastiness and chocolate to follow. The taste is good. The first thing you notice is actually a touch of maple. It is followed by some chocolate and a touch of caramel and toffee. Some spiciness is there also. It is pretty well balanced, with out being overly sweet. A decent brew.

ery dark brown beer with a thin white head. Nice aroma of heavy caramel, toffee and sweet toasted malt. There is a bit of chocolate nad a hint of light roast. A decent hint of spiciness as well, although perhaps a bit more subdued than I’d like. The flavour is nice and roasty, some chocolate and sweet toasty malts. Spicy flavour with a hint of plumminess as well. The body improves a bit with the second glass once the yeast get resuspended a bit. A nice beer, but I’d still like to see a more interesting yeast selection.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours dark brown, minimal head. Aroma of roasted nuts, chocolate, cloves, ripe fruit. Flavor is rich caramel, fruitiness, ending in hints of chocolate. Rich and warming, very good.

Wow, so dark for a weizen bock, and only a day or two after having one that wasn’t dark at all... so maybe this is three parts bock and one part weizen, at least in looks. But the smell and the taste is pretty darn good. Clove and wheat and sweet maple malt and caramel with a nice chewyness. I dig it.

Aroma was Alcohol and lots of malt.Pours dark brown with a medium off white head.Got some dark fruits in the flavor.Medium to thin mouthfeel with lots of malt in the finish.

Let’s see, if this came out in May, maybe it doesn’t age well. The bottle is gone, so I can’t check for a "enjoy by date". These guys should stick with what they do best, and this ain’t it. Not much going right here. It poured nicely and looked good in the glass. Got a little more drinkable as it warmed, unlocking some chocolate/ yeasty notes.

Bottle. Roast and chocolate aroma. Dark brown, low head. Chocolate, milk, light licorice, clove and yeast. Anise aftertaste - getting a slightly weird vibe here.
