(Rating #1476)

the aroma is great with flavors with the scent of chocolate covered raspberry. the taste however is a little soapy. malts are nice and very little hop presence.

The aroma is nice with raspberries and chocolate as well as toasted malt and toffee. The appearance is dark brown with a smaller head. The flavor is like the aroma but not as good. The palate is average. Overall it’s drinkable.

Bottle: Nicest thing about this is the color. Picture perfect dark brown. Thin light brown head. Scent of light raspberry’s. Flavor is that of under ripened raspberry.

12oz bottle at New World in Tampa. Pours clear amber with decent tan head. I notice early on the label states “made with real raspberry flavor.” Not raspberries but raspberry flavor. So right off I’ve got syrupy sticky fruit extract on the mind. Sure enough the aroma is full of sweet sweet raspberry and nothing else. By the way, if the beer is infused with a bold syrupy fruitiness why not use a bolder base beer. The brown base was gone, nothing. The taste was like the aroma with syrup raspberry extract you might find at IHOP to put on pancakes as you dive head long into diabetic seizure. Again, a brown ale base?? COME ON!

Bottle. Very dark copper color with the carbonation of a soda. Sour fruit and grains on the nose, with a hint of raspberries. There is some raspberry flavor here, though it’s not overpowering. Maybe there should be more of it, because what is here doesn’t taste very good. Sour, medicine-like tartness. Leaves my mouth feeling sticky and longing for another beer...just not this one.

Raspberry taste is quite weak. A little bitter, but not much taste to speak of. Pours very dark, almost the color of a stout like Guinness. Has a very syrupy taste and feel. This is certainly not one of the best ales I’ve had.

Nice deep brown coloured body with strong ruby highlights and a dense tan head. Aroma of potent raspberries, roasted malt, caramel and a bit of nuts. Light-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavour with a potent set of nuts and vegetables in the taste - pretty disgusting. Aftertaste shows sugars with some good raspberry tastes if you can get past the bitter nuts. Overall, an interesting fruit beer - especially for the season. The beer shows too much metal and bitter flavours and not enough malt/body. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 18-January-2008.
