Commercial Description:
We’re rolling out a new Imperial series with the first beer scheduled to release January ’09. These larger-than-life beers will be sold in 22 oz bottles and on draft. Brewed with more malts and more hops, these beers are big, bold, flavorful, and high-octane. The first in the series is a Russian Imperial Stout. The style was first brewed in England for the Russian Czar and it is the king of stouts. Plenty of big malt flavors- chocolate and roasted- and high alcohol with lower carbonation and mild hops. We brewed this beer with double the malts and four times the hops of regular stouts! Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout clocks in around 10% ABV- a beer to be savored responsibly. True to style, this beer will last for years so you may want to stock up on a few bottles for your cellar while it’s available.

Pours a three finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving traces of lace. Black color, no highlights. Light-medium carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate nose. Flavor is roasted chocolate, smooth, slight burnt chocolate finish. $5.99 for a 22oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark cola brown with a tan head. Nose is caramel, roast, some slight smoke, dark chocolate, and chicory. Flavor is roast, chicory, some sticky sweetness, and some chicory. Medium bodied and overall enjoyable beer. Otter Creek did this one up nicely.

Bottle at Tampa tasting. Poured black with a medium sized brown head and intricate lacing. Nose is roasted with hints of caramel and tobacco. Very good flavor, RIS all the way. Chocolate notes with coffee, roasted malt, and molasses with a touch of hops bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden. Thick creamy mouthfeel. Finish is roasted with bitter hops. Nice surprise.

22oz bottle. Very dark, black pour. the head was a creamy dark tan head. Roasty, coffee aroma, very nice. Chocolate in the taste, some coffee and bitterness in the end, with a dryness in the finish as well.

I’m always a little gun-shy at impy’s that have an overly ashy aroma and flavor. Usually it’s a deal-breaker for me. As soon as I smell or taste it, it’s over. Thankfully, this beer had neither. Huge coffee notes in the aroma and flavor. Smokey, mocha, brown sugar and light toffee notes in the aroma too. Flavor is strong without being brash. Coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, charred wood and alcohol are all present. Long bitter coffee finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied. Could of used a bit more thickness. Worth the money (think i paid $7.00/22 oz bottle).

Bottle from the Coop in Davis, CA. Pours opaque black with a huge dark tan head. Strong aromas of chocolate, burnt malt and coffee. Near full bodied with smooth, mild carbonation. Flavor is coffee, dark malt, and chocolate. Finish is a bit treacle and vanilla. Mostly chocolate though. Really good experience.

Bottle from La Bodega. Black with a fizzy light brown head. Very nice chocolate, cherry, and espresso aroma with some floral notes. Chocolate, chocolate, coffee, and more chocolate taste. Very well done.
