An almost purplish tint, medium/dark brown, thick, dense, like a blueberry pancake. Very smooth, black body. Aroma a roasted chocolate and... something reminds me of wood. Extremely smooth in the mouth, almost creamy. Sweet, woody, and almost metallically bitter. Is that a word? All I keep thinking about is how smooth this beer is. Thick, but not so much so that it’s hard to stomach. Alcohol is noticeable, but not overwhelming. Just enough to make it fun. fidel (995), Livermore, California, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Apr 9, 2009 This is a bad, bad beer. Looking at other ratings, maybe a bad bottle, but the influences weren’t infected influences, just harsh ash and burnt butter. A bit thin for an Impy as well. nuplastikk (1214), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a thick oily black with a foamy brown-tan head. The aroma is pleasantly chocolate, not showing much sings of the alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick and full of rich chocolate roastiness. Really quite a nice Imperial Stout, really showcases the rich full chocolate flavors while limiting, perhaps all out eliminating, any alcohol burn. I don’t get much hop character out of it, maybe something in the chalky chocolate aftertaste. travita (1941), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2009 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The smell is roasty, some soy sauce, a little vinegar, malts, and chocolate. The look is brown to black in color and has a decent tan colored head. The taste is roasty, slightly off for style, chocolate, and alcohol. Thinner body. RCL (1486), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2009 Pleasant chocolate and cola aroma. The flavor is not bad, cocoa powder, mostly. Palate is a wee bit thin for an impy. 10.6% ABV is totally undetectable. Decent and drinkable but I will not be buying another anytime soon. ericandersnavy (1133), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2009 22oz bottle pours deep black with a very creamy (think nitro pour) brownish head. Delicious coffee, molasses and licorice aromas. Initial burnt coffee flavors with dryness leads into chocolate, figs, slight smoke body. Slightly fruity in the sweetness. Only a bit of alcohol burn. Different from many RIS beers I have had. One of Otter Creek’s best. Need one more bottle to age to see how it turns out.
