Commercial Description:
We’re rolling out a new Imperial series with the first beer scheduled to release January ’09. These larger-than-life beers will be sold in 22 oz bottles and on draft. Brewed with more malts and more hops, these beers are big, bold, flavorful, and high-octane. The first in the series is a Russian Imperial Stout. The style was first brewed in England for the Russian Czar and it is the king of stouts. Plenty of big malt flavors- chocolate and roasted- and high alcohol with lower carbonation and mild hops. We brewed this beer with double the malts and four times the hops of regular stouts! Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout clocks in around 10% ABV- a beer to be savored responsibly. True to style, this beer will last for years so you may want to stock up on a few bottles for your cellar while it’s available.

22oz bottle pours deep black with a very creamy (think nitro pour) brownish head. Delicious coffee, molasses and licorice aromas. Initial burnt coffee flavors with dryness leads into chocolate, figs, slight smoke body. Slightly fruity in the sweetness. Only a bit of alcohol burn. Different from many RIS beers I have had. One of Otter Creek’s best. Need one more bottle to age to see how it turns out.

22 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark chestnut brown appearing opaque in the glass. Large dark tan head with good head retention and lacing. Aroma of heavy roasted malts and heavy chocolate with citrus hops, nuts and coffee. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Some caramel and vanilla also. Fairly strong citrus hop finish. Creamy and full bodied. Very nicely balanced. Fantastic beer.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a frothy, bubbly, dark tan head. Smell: Dark roasted maltiness command the earthy, heady aroma with full notes of coffee, chocolate, and charred grains. Taste: Sweet, malty opening of roasted barley, bittersweet chocolate, cigar ash, and Italian roast coffee. Slight fruitiness buried underneath all the weighty malt flavors. Growing roasty, earthy bitterness and slight hint of warming alcohol begin to take hold, though a taste of gooey molasses tempers them somewhat. Finishes dry and rather roasty. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: Recommended. Whaddya know, that’s pretty darned good. A well-made, respectable RIS from Otter Creek.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a dark brown head over a black body. Aroma of chocolate three ways (baking, fudge, and brownie), coffee, cardboard and nutshells. Taste is chocolate, and very strong espresso. Syrupy mouthfeel and light bubbles.
