Lovely, rich aroma of chocolate, roasted walnuts, cappucino, black cherries, and thick caramel. Flavour is all dark chocolate, espresso, and maraschino cherries. Some hop and alcohol bitterness in the finish, and it really sticks with you. Full body and perfectly carbonated. Exactly what an Imperial Stout should be. I’m surprised this isn’t rated more highly. Black pour with a medium tan head. Nose of chocolate, roasted malt, some alcohol and smoke. Chocolate flavor up front with vanilla, a hint of booze and a roasty coffee finish. Between this and the IIPA, I’m sold on their big bottle imperial series. nearbeer (1886), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is light cherry, oat, cookie dough, coffee and whiskey. Flavor is Irish coffee, chocolate, caramel, tart and tingly cherry, and some toasted peanut. Finish is coffee, dark chocolate, oatmeal, and near-scorched walnut. Medium-heavy body is sorta smooth, acidic-tingly, and dried with roast and alcohol, with some nice chest-warming. Good flavors seem to need some more melding; a little rough around the edges, with a bit too much notice given to the alcohol. Will try one with some more age on it. Re-evaluation on 1-2-2010, seems better with age: more full, fruity and curly (767), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Pours black with a reddish tan head. Coffee, chocolate. Tart chocolate covered cherry fruit. Alcohol flavors are well balanced. Slightly bitter. Pretty good though not my favorite style. Not a big fan of the tart fruit. Barrios (861), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Sampled at the ’Butter’s Last Supper’ tasting. Near black pour with ring of brown head. Nose of dark cherry, roast, chocolate, and a distinct lack of alcohol heat. Flavor on the other hand comes off as extremely vegetal, which I suppose comes from the cocoa, and cherry syrup, with a spicy not on the tail. Good warming as it goes down, but does an excellent job of hiding the abv. I’m torn, because this comes off as a ris with cherry juice, but it does have some other redeeming values.
