Aroma of lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and chocolate with a touch of light fruity esters. Body starts with good fullness and rich dark maltiness and some mild fruity character, roasty coffee, some piny bittering hops and a bittersweet slightly warming dark chocolate finish. A good brew from Otter Creek. hopscotch (5490), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2009 Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, well tanned head that never fully dissipates. Fantastic, carbon aroma – deeply roasted, unground coffee beans, pouch tobacco, extinguished campfire wood and deep, dark chocolate. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and diminished carbonation. The flavor is scorched and leans heavily toward the bitter side of balance – low to no residual sweetness… even after nursing it for over an hour in the very warm, Florida sunshine. Roasty, acrid finish. Well done. Big THANKS to scraff for sending this bottle to Florida! jcwattsrugger (5424), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
