Commercial Description:
This is a traditional porter, made to warm the bones. Nearly black in color, Stovepipe Porter has a rich palate and a roasted, hoppy and slightly herbal aroma.

Bottle. Pours a dark black with a light mocha head that leaves pretty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, coffee. Flavor of the same, some chocolate, some alcohol (weird, since this is only 5.4%) also a weird taste I can’t quite place. Thin, watery palate. This is ok, I guess. I wouldn’t get this again though.

bottle, aroma is a little coffee with some anise. Decent taste totally black in color. Lots of roasted malt flavor, good but not great, probably would not buy again

Bottle into English pint glass. Pours a near black with ruby highlights; sports a two finger, deep tan head. Aroma is mundane: roasty malts, blah coffee. Taste is much like the aroma, plus a bitter hops aftertaste. Stays around oily on the mouth. This is a by the numbers porter, which leads to a disappointing experience. Better luck next time.

Otter Creek’s Stovepipe Porter is decent. Dark in color but light in flavor. I wouldn’t buy this one again

Black color, medium to thick tan head. Roasted coffee flavor with a bitter aftertaste. Lingering bitter. I haven’t sampled a ton of Porters but this seems to be middle of the road.

A very bland and run of the mill porter. This style is hit or miss with me and this was a miss. Aroma was almost nothing but could pick up some roasted malt. Pour was a nice deep brown/black almost with a 2 finger tan head. Taste was very subtle. Roasted malt and a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Great carbonation that bites the tongue and perhaps dulls the flavor.

Bottle. Dark amber pour, almost opaque with scant, brief head. Aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg and molasses. Smokey, roasted taste; medium sweet with chocolate and coffee notes. Nice slight bitterness in the lingering sweet aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with surprising carbonation in view of flat pour. Very nice to sip by itself. Would go wonderfully with a slice of apple pie.
