| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 15, 2008 From a 12 fl. oz (US) bottle coded 2/5/08LDT*2253. Pours brown with a short-lived beige head. A very small roasted smoky scent in the aroma but it is a decent one. The taste experience is more hoppy than roasted. Heavy mouth feel. Bold is a good word. The description says it has a slightly herbal aroma. I didn’t notice anythi ng herbal about my sample. It left a bit of an aftertaste. EithCubes (2176), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2008 Bottle. Translucent dark brown pour with a rocky light brown head. Herbal, slightly-sour aroma with burnt roast and a touch of choco. Dry, very roasted, burnt malt taste. Light bitterness and some more of that herbal sourness, though less than the nose suggested, and certainly not enough to imply a problem with the bottle. Overall, a rich, thick taste and a lasting, dry, bitter aftertaste. Slippery mouthfeel on a medium body swimming with malt. A very good coal porter! Optigon (562), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Okay, this is my favorite style and this beer had the benefit of being tasted side by side with a sample of the upcoming Michelob Porter. Night and day. This has flavor, mouthfeel, bitterness, notes of hickory, burnt coffee, molasses, dark chocolate. The Michelob had nothing. hillfiiiiire (286), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Pours almost opaque with a dissipating head. The aroma is something else. Sometimes, it has a very pleasant roasty, burnt malt aroma. Sometimes, I smell it again, and I just get the aroma of a porta-potty. It’s really odd. The flavor is like an off-shoot of watered down poop that sometimes comes out a little sweet. The mouthfeel is watery thin. This beer kind of makes me sad. It’s like the Poo-Pipe Porter.
