Commercial Description:
This is a traditional porter, made to warm the bones. Nearly black in color, Stovepipe Porter has a rich palate and a roasted, hoppy and slightly herbal aroma.

This was the first beer I ever sampled from Otter Creek Brewing. Nice to revisit the dark porter. Coffee and roast malts dominate but bitterness and chocolate are intergrated into the mouthfeel. I’ve been sampling Otter Creek’s expanding line and limited beers, next time I’ll pick up more Stovepipe.

Strong coffee malt aroma. Dark amber color with a small tan head.Bitter malt taste that builds up to the middle and fades slowly into the finish. Creamy palate with a slight burn in the end.

Deep dark brown. Great head (pour carefully) with good retention keeping a thin tan layer atop. Roasted coffee with slight powdered chocolate, tea and faint hop aroma. Similar taste with mild hop bitterness and alcohol towards the end. Bitter dry finish. Not too sweet. Thin to medium body.

Pours black with a hint of red in there. Nice coffee aroma. You can taste coffee in the beer and a little bit of chocolate. The beer is a little bitter. Seemed a little thin and watery for my taste.

Red black in color with nice off-white foamy head. Hops and a smoked roasted malt aroma that is a bit too light for me. Has roasted hints in the flavor as well - not bad. Palate is a bit thin and watery.

Bottle. Fairly watery. Still, nice dark ruby colors when held up to the light. Some oats with roasted hay bags. Slight coffee flavors too. A bit thin, a little bitter. Eh, not too bad.

bottle acquired in trade from BA. (littlebreeze, I think...)Pours black with ruby edges and a light tan head. Smell is roasty, chalky cocoa and cream. Taste is roasty and chalky, but a bit cardboard and stale like as well. Thin body and more carbonation than preferable for the style. Decent and drinkable, but unremarkable.

Cooper’s- Chicago. Bottle. Aroma of coffee right away. Black, with a slight hint of burgundy red. Bitter coffee taste throughout, with bittersweet chocolate. A touch heavy with the carbonation detracts slightly. Overall was pretty good, but just a shade too bitter for my taste.
