What really threw me off is the strange feeling that I was drinking this one through a corroded copper pipe. Metallic isn’t my thing. bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours clear root beer brown with a tall but fading tan head. Aroma of brown sugar and maybe some metal? Light watery body and moderate carbonation. The taste starts lightly sweet, with some coffee and nutty notes with the same strangely metallic overtone as the nose. Just a bit of hoppy bitterness in the finish. Are they using REAL stovepipes in this one? biznizness (948), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

It was a good porter and all but... I need something imperial to officially WARM THE BONES. BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

Dark Brown in Color with a thick head. The deep molasses and rich malts where awesome for this porter. Loved the use of spices and dark malts this was a great beer to drink. Had full body and great after flavors. This was a treat to drink.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Bottle: Pours dark brown with a 1 finger tan head. Malty and coffee aroma. Flavor is light malts and lots of coffee and chocolate flavors. Not as malty and sweet as most porters and leaves more to the roasted character. Body is light but full of character. Extremely drinkable and semi dry and crisp. Quite good. mhot55 (99), USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2007 Single bottle from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Pours a dark brown with a slight white head. Typical porter aroma of roasted malts, taste is average porter, but still a very good beer. nearbeer (1842), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 355 ml, bottled 2/28/07. Huge fizzy head quickly settles on the opaque black beer and tries to last. Aroma is pure iron (maybe hence the stovepipe?) Initial taste is strong smoke, then rusty iron and sourish molasses. Turns more to bitter metallic coffee and maybe some brown sugar, with some herby bitter hops as well. Palate is almost medium-bodied, sticky, slightly astringent and to the dry side. Aptly named, harsh, and a bit disappointing, but still an average-to-good porter.
