Flavor is light malts and lots of coffee and chocolate flavors. Not as malty and sweet as most porters and leaves more to the roasted character. Body is light but full of character. Extremely drinkable and semi dry and crisp. Quite good. mhot55 (99), USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2007 Single bottle from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Pours a dark brown with a slight white head. Typical porter aroma of roasted malts, taste is average porter, but still a very good beer. nearbeer (1878), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 355 ml, bottled 2/28/07. Huge fizzy head quickly settles on the opaque black beer and tries to last. Aroma is pure iron (maybe hence the stovepipe?) Initial taste is strong smoke, then rusty iron and sourish molasses. Turns more to bitter metallic coffee and maybe some brown sugar, with some herby bitter hops as well. Palate is almost medium-bodied, sticky, slightly astringent and to the dry side. Aptly named, harsh, and a bit disappointing, but still an average-to-good porter. Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2007 THOUGHTS: A little more hoppy than I would have expected in a porter but still very nice. Reminded me a little of Dogfish Head’s India Brown Ale. A lot of flavors and aromas you don’t always see together that come together nicely here.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with red highlights and a small, off-white head that fully diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma was moderate roasted and mild coffee malt, some caramel malt and a hint of chocolate. It was also moderately hoppy. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter, while the finish was moderately sweet and heavily to harshly bitter with an average to long duration. The flavor was coffee and a little caramel moving to a bitter coffe and bitter hops finish. The medium body was very dry with tingly carbonation. troopie (906), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 4, 2007 Bottle. Poured black with thick tan head, some lacing. Hoppy floral aroma. Rich roast malt flavour. Lekker hoppy finish that lasts. I would definitely drink this again. sneezey (110), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Great beer - a bit different in that the malt is very malty without the usual bitter chocolate taste but more true malt instead. Not too watery like many porters are - holds its own against a stout any day. Must be a much heavier hop content without figuring it’s the hops doing that. Terrific overall effect for a nice autumn night. Cartoonkhaki (1150), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Dark brown... can hardly see through it. Tan head. Aroma is robust and full of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate flavours. The flavour is equal to the aroma. Good bitters on the sides and back of my tongue. Rich coffee flavour comes out more then the aroma also there is a smoky flavour noted as well. Palate is medium and oily.
