on tap mews tavern 8/4/07. boy this brings back memories of one of the first "darker" beer i had liked, drank many over a nice fire but onto the review. pours a dark brown in color with a thin layer of head on the glass, smell is roasted coffee, sweet caramel, and some underlying hops. taste is lighter than memory served, light smoke flavor, coffee, slightly bitter, and had a creamy mouth feel. still the same good sipping beer i had remembered

2/11/2008 bottle much the same as on tap with good carbination and noted molasses in the nose. body is nice to sip. enjoyable again.

12 oz bottle, opaque black body with large, long lasting off-white head with some lacing. A lot of roasted malt in the aroma, some sweet malt, biscuit, very soft mollases as well. Toasted malt, weak choclate, kind of sickening sweet and biscuity, some coffee. Med body and little carb. I tried this one once before and it hasn’t gotten any better.

CHARRED AND BITTER CHOCOLATE FLAVOR ACCOMPANIED BY ROASTED COFFEE PLAYS WELL WITH THE THINNISH BODY (LIKE OVALTINE ON STEROIDS). THE BITTER ASTRINGENT LIKE HOPPINESS IS GOOD. IF YOU LIKE THE FLAVORS THIS IS GOOD IF NOT ??? BACKROUND EARTHINESS IS GOOD!

Thank you Steve/Coldbrewky - or rather Barbara, who bought the beers for us :) It’s a pitch black beer with a reddish glow and a nice head. The aroma has nice roasted notes with chocolate and a touch of smoke. The flavour is light, but pleasant with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, a bit of coffee and a roasted bitterness that lasts quite long in the finish. 2352
