I like this porter (hell, I think I like all porters come right down to it), and I bought a case of it. Comparable to Sierra Nevada. Very smoky. If I were to think of drinking a stovepipe, this is what it would taste like. FROTHINGSLOSH (2001), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 18, 2006 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, and roasty malts with a light chocolate undertone. The flavor was moderately dry and gritty with a moderately strong roasty malt base and light hints of chocolate and coffee. The finish is sour and bitter. Cappadonna (104), Delray Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2006 Pours translucent black - reddish brown with small tan head which quickly dissipates. The aroma is toasty with a small hint of fruitiness. The flavor has some kick and actually has a noticeable toasted marshmallow taste to it. It’s not too heavy either. A very enjoyable porter. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2006 In the bottle. Beer of the Month Club selection- thanks to pman. Pours purple brown with a beige head. Nice thick lacing. Roasted nutty chocolate aroma. This has a nice aroma even when very cold. Has an up front fizzines and a medium palate. Very nice residual roasted flavor with a lingering bitterness to balance things out. As it warms, a much more pronounced chocolate emerges. Nice beer. jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 23, 2006 On tap, this was a nice, deep malty porter. Plenty of roasty, coffee, chocolate flavors, with some hop bitterness. A bit on the light/thin side, but otherwise good. DYCSoccer17 (2191), Davis, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 18, 2006 12 ounce bottle. I’m sure I have had this and probably rated it before, but for some reason it is not here. Roasted malty nose with fair amounts of chocolate with lightly sweet notes. Lightly smokey. A little metallic. Aromatic and pleasant. Transparent garnet-mahogany body with a medium-small light tan head. Roasted, grainy, chocolatey flavor to start. Turns dry and burnt later on. Becomes thin and on the watery side. A bit too watery for me. tronraner (1916), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 7, 2006 12 oz. bottle from NachlamSie. Rating entered from recent memory. Pretty run of the mill porter... Kind of a tannic feel to it, some roasted notes, cocoa powder, charcoal. A bit thinner in the mouth than I would like, which makes it seem kind of harsh. Ok beer... drinkable, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. kmweaver (2459), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 2, 2006 12oz bottle. Pours a cola-brown, with a small off-white head. Plenty of charred and tea-like malts in the aroma; a hint of smoke. The body is surprisingly light; light-to-medium mouthfeel, somewhat watery; roasted malts, coffee, and some milk chocolate; the finish is the most satisfying part: nice roasted quality with some smoke and good hoppy bitterness.
