This was very close to a drain-pour. There was a heavy bitter-smoky bite and insufficient sweetness to balance it. Thin mouthfeel, chemical aftertaste. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 14, 2005 Bottle. Pours a deep black color, very slight mahogany comes through when backlit. Fair tan head forms and fades to a slight layer over the liquid. Moderate lacing. Aroma seems to be roast dominant, lots of coffee. A bit thin to the palate. Roasted grain, coffee dominate taste. Some astringent grain presence, not a lot of hop presence. Fair. iratherbe (255), Marlton, New Jersey, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 24, 2005 Deep cola color, initial foamy white to brown to tan head that leaves soon, burnt roasted malt flavoring with some hop balance; aftertaste of a crisp bitterness. Too carbonated & thin. Overall quite average. Screw cap ... why? Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 10, 2005 Dark malt, smokey aroma. Actually smells like it was in a stovepipe. Dark brown in color with no head really. Roasted smoke, malty flavor with hoppiness to it. It was enjoyable. spkldhenlvr24 (465), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 4, 2005 Bottle. Pours almost completly black, but not quite opaque. Ruby tint. Long lasting medium sized light tan head. Nice very roasted coffee, dark fruity aroma. Nice sweet malty flavor. Some good roasted chocolate. A little too thin. BItter aftertaste. This reminded me what a good porter should be like. Sammy (4038), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2005 Well carbonated porter, very roasty in aroma and toast, medium mouthfeel.Coffee roast and woodsmoke. Refreshing, though missing something. Initially some sourness that disapeared in the roastiness as it warmed to room temperature. Bottled in June of this year. Tubbfan (144), Joliet, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Poured a midnight brown from the bottle, slightly off-white head that didn’t last and little lacing. Small amounts of bubbles rising to the top. Smoky, roasted coffee and moderately high malt dominate the aroma. The label claims that there is an herbal aroma, but I can’t sense it. The flavor is bitter and long lasting. I suppose the hops contribute to the bitterness. The palate is medium-bodied, creamy with a good deal of carbonation in the mouth. A very drinkable beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Bottle (12oz). Pours a deep clear deep ruby-brown (like strong black tea) with a smallish very light tan foamy head. Aroma of strong coffee, chocolate, deep roast malt, peat, yeast and must. Taste is quite light, yeasty roast malt, coffee, chocolate, apple sauce, woodsmoke, and cola. Got weirdly fishy on warming. Mouthfeel a little thin and flat, even for a porter.
