Nose was a nice blend of malt and coffee and chocolate. Some astringency in the mouth, nice carbonation, medium to full bodied. Smooth and creamy. Flavor was bitter coffee and chocolate malt. Nice. hopdog (5612), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jul 8, 2004 Poured a medium copper/brown (lighter than I would expect from a porter - you could see through it) with a smaller tan head. Malty chocolate aroma. Really didn’t taste like too much. Light chocolate with a very light bitterness. Body was weak. I was not impressed at all with this beer. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA

Slight chocolate, coffee flavor, could be more bitter. Very drinkable. Not the best, but certainly worth a try. chriso (4851), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Beer #10 at Spiesy’s and the first of a run of dark beers, following on from the wishy washy Swiss offerings, so I guess anything was going to come over pretty well. A relatively modest 5.4%, this one. Nearly opaque, nut brown colour. Extremely pungent roast coffee and smoky chocolate on the nose, but, not for the first time in this session, the aroma flattered to deceive. I expected something equally punchy, but the flavours were just heavily reduced versions of the aroma and died away alarmingly to a vaguely dry, but unassertive finish. I still enjoyed it though. Not a typical porter (in the English style, at least) in my eyes - no sour edge on the finish - and more like a thin stout really.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 28, 2004 Bottle @ Spiesy’s gaff. Very malty, chocolate, marmite, slight coffee - nice! Flavour lets it down big time after the excitement of the aroma. Some of the aroma notes return in the flavour, but murky and muddled and with less clarity and impact than the aroma. wilkie (1192), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 20, 2004 Dark ruby-red, see through, and has
a small off white head. Roasy cholcolate
aroma. Flavor is similar to aroma, but there
is a tinge of sacharin and there is really no
finish--that is, no bitterness at all.
