| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2009 Thick, light beige head. Recedes rockily and leaves good ring lace. Color is deep ruby brown where the barest of light passes.
Good aroma, but mild. Some burnt malts give it a touch of coffee. There’s also a sense of cream.
This is nearly a transition porter; it has many of the qualities of a good stout--lots of burnt grain (black patent), particularly in the aftertaste. Yet, the body is closer to the porter (i.e. not as thick). No creamy flavors, this is almost all bitter, over done toast. If you like bitter stouts, you’ll likely like this one. angrypirate06 (763), Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 13, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with some nice ruby highlights and a huge, creamy, light tan head. Great aroma with roasted malt, coffee, caramel, and a light herbal note. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Coffee, a little caramel, earth, mineral notes, and a light sourness on the palate. Short finish with only a light coffee note that lingers. Overall a very satisfying brew! altonbrownd (1912), Amsterdam, Netherlands
