| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 12, 2009 [Bottle] Pours dark reddish-brown with a tiny light brown head. Aroma is deeply roasted malt, coffee, and quite a bit of sweetness. Cocoa, flan, and notes of maple syrup are also present. The taste is a little harsh on the swallow, with a lot of ashy bitterness that walks a fine line between enjoyable and overpowering, before mostly yielding to vanilla, fudge and a little caramel. Really not bad at all, despite the sometimes abrasive char. Just a touch too thin, but has a good length finish. A very solid porter that really impressed me. If the char taste was toned down just a little, it would be outstanding. Dorwart (1825), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Thin head which disappeared pretty darn quickly. Sweet malty aroma with lots of cocoa, light coffee, molasses and some nice roasted grains. Aroma makes me think this is going to be a pretty good brew which is contrary to my beliefs about Otter Creek. Color is a very dark brown. Mild flavor with some bitter coffee, chocolate and sweet malts. Kind of thin and watery. Dominated by weak coffee flavors. Finishes roasty and dry with a bit of carbon in the aftertaste. An ok brew.
