cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Nov 8, 2009 Double D pours a delicious looking amber bronze with a big fluffy white head with thick, blanketing lacing. Fruity hop aroma chock full of citrus and pine with a strong caramel and biscuit malt scent to back up the hops. Very adventurous for a strong hoppy beer as the malts are incredibly thick and help carry the heavy hops. Full bodied, bitter and soapy this one drinks real well. Sweet malts with lots of bread and caramel flavor along with a solid nuttiness. Wonderful fresh citrus hops and some mild mixed berry flavor as well. savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA Oct 7, 2009 22 oz bottle. Slightly cloudy amber with a foamy off white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. Very strong aroma of citrus, pine, light fruit and caramel. Sweet caramel malt up front with a good strong bitterness that blends in finishes strong. Medium body with a syrupy mouth feel that is lightened by the active carbonation. This is a very well balanced IIPA that tastes as good as it smells. The alcohol is unnoticeable and there is a very nice dry hop flavor and aroma. Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 29, 2009 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, caramel, spices, and grapefruit, leading to a dry and bitter finish. Thanks CaptainCougar for coming to Denmark and bringing this. Miver (551), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 26, 2009 Draft at brew pub. Poured cloudy golden amber in color with a large off white head. Aroma of caramel, juicy american hops, grapefruit. Taste is nice and sweet with caramel and grapefruit hops. Hops are not overdone, and everything on this balances out very well. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bomber. Clear, golden-orange body. Big fruit aroma of citrus, peach and mango. Punchy citric hop flavor and rich crystal malt. Medium-full body, average carbonation and a bitter finish. Pretty sticky and resinous with a lingering hop finish. Overall a pretty run of the mill IIPA that falls victim to the "bigger is better" that plagues the style. Taking this beer down a notch or two in gravity would probably improve it. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bomber. Heavy fruits and hoppy nose, lychee and orange and strong malt. Clear orange pour with a billowy off-white head. Huge caramel with orange peel. Really ridiculously juicy hoppiness with low-medium bitterness. Strong alcohol, intense hoppy flavor. Medium body, too-strong alcohol lingers. Theis (3617), Denmark Sep 15, 2009 Bottle at Papsø’s - Thanks to CaptainCougar. Cloudy amber - white head. High hoppy, sweetness, caramel, candy, toasted, knækbrød (Swedish flatbread), grape fruity, piney, light wooden notes, nice bitterness, light dryness. OK. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 7, 2009 22oz bomber courtesy of CoolJosh poured into a tulip.
Pours a crystal clear golden amber with lots of bubbles streaming to the top feeding a big creamy head that recedes pretty quickly, leaving a soapy cap and some decent lacing.
The aroma is full of sweet, juicy citrus, with oranges and tangerines dominating. There is also a more perfumy floral aroma and a hint of toasted caramel in the background.
There is a big astringent bitterness up front that seems more floral than citrus with the perfume coming out. There is a light caramel malt backbone and the finish is bitter with pine and hints of citrus. The sweetness is not nearly as prevalent in the taste as in the aroma.
The mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied with plenty of carbonation and fairly dry, especially in the finish. Great mouthfeel for me.
This is a very hop-forward DIPA that is heavy on the floral hops, with a resinous presence in the taste that lingers after each sip. Good stuff.
